Hi lil.. welcome to the thread..

The debate was really good. McCain was very effective on telling the American people how he plans to curb spending and bring business back to America. However,McCain needs to convince the American people he will help the economy and the people in the "day to day" and I think he didnt come across in this particular debate as he could have, but it was only one debate and I'm sure he will get the chance in upcoming debates. I believe McCain knows how to create new jobs with new energy and how vital that is to our economy. Obama has made it clear he is a big spender and that is really bad for our country. He talks the talk but he has never walked the walk. Obama just amazed me with the flip flops on the national security issues! This is the PRESIDENCY!

As you can see I am very opinionated on such issues!

Psh. Mccain was effective in dodging the questions, repeating over and over again that he has "been there" and Obama "doesn't understand" and looking for sympathy votes. Obama CLEARLY is the more educated one. He showed true class tonight, McCain rambled about absolutely nothing half of the time, but he will "take care of the veterans" He's old. His whole make Obama look like an idiot who's not qualified was a poor tactic, as opposed to Obama's confident nature. If I had a quarter for everytime McCain repeated himself tonight and said the phrase "what he doesn't understand", I'd be a rich woman.

If you want to see America invest in some sustainable energy sources, then get a damn republican out of office. Off shore drilling, what a freaking joke! We can fly to the moon but we can't get off of our dependency on fossil fuels. and don't even get me started on Palin, somebody please let me know how the governor of ALASKA wants to drill. What an idiot. Does non-renewable resource mean anything at all? Non. renewable. Pretty self explanatory. But hey, let's take care of ourselves, screw our children, grandchildren and their grandchildren. that's their problem, right?

"spending freeze", a period of time when spending could be limited or completely stopped, I'm sure that could only happen in different areas.

My opinion McCain did best in the debate. Obama focused a lot on the middle class, hoping that would win more of the middle class....he knows citizens want to hear it..... insurance, he still dwells on that, knowing the people want to hear that too.....when ask a question he couldn't answer, he agreed with McCain....that was a smart thing to do, but everyone can see through that.

I will say McCain spoke of his past a little more than I liked. But overall my opinion, McCain won the debate.

Also, Did Obama continue to complain that we have ignored our problems in Afghanistan, and yet he, as the sub-commitee chair, has DONE nothing to resolve anything?

I just can't bring myself to become that stupid again, as I did with Bush. Show me any proof that he has done anything besides want more American jobs taken. Sure he can talk the smack but when he get's in office he will thumb his nose like Bush has at all the Americans that want two border agents releasted from jail for bustin a cap in a drug dealer azz. I have heard the crooks say that we will build a fence but that has yet to happen and never will. You must understand that these type folk will say anything to get into office. You just can't buy into all thats said. You should do some research on some folks ole Juan has working for him before making such statements.

McCain portrayed himself as an out of touch, angry man who's sole intent was to berate Obama. It failed miserably because every time that he "Senator Obama just doesn't get it", Obama had an intelligent answer. When your opponent is clearly more intelligent than you, trying to make him look stupid is probably a bad plan.

His demeanor was snide, sneering and you could see the anger bubbling right under the surface in him. He did not behave in a presidential manner. He appeared to be ready to fly off the handle - a couple of times I thought he was really going to lose his temper. When Obama pointed out things like he sang songs/poked fun about bombing Iran, or that he was wrong about going into the war in the first place - he didn't even address it. All he could do was try to play on the people's sympathies by talking about his POW experience, or the mother of the dead soldier who gave him a bracelet.

Obama portrayed himself as truly presidential. He was calm, and collected, and refused to be baited by McCain's snide remarks. He often used McCain's first name, and gave him credit for some things like saying "You're right on that point...". He showed himself to be the bigger man.

McCain refused to make eye contact with Obama, and never called him by his first name. Body language speaks volumes, and by the body language I would say that Obama was clearly the most confident and composed.

I don't think there were any major gaffes, but McCain did get the name of the president of Pakistan wrong, and he also declared that they were a 'failed state' which is probably news to them. He also admitted that the US has been torturing prisoners, which we all know, but I can't believe he admitted.

I do think it was one of the most competent debates I've seen in a long time. Neither candidate appeared to be caught off guard.

McCain kept speaking about the past, and his record - Obama kept talking about the future. In this election where the people of the country want change, I think Obama's overall approach was the most successful.

I think Obama's presence and composure alone in contrast with McCain's angry demeanor will win over undecided voters.

Several instant polls during the debate gave the overall advantage to Obama on handling the economy and Iraq. By a margin of 51 percent to 38 percent, viewers said Obama did the “best job” overall, a CNN poll found. A CBS poll of undecided voters found 40 percent said Obama won, and 22 percent gave the nod to McCain.

I can't wait for the debate between Palin and Biden next week...

When you're as forgetable as McCain, it would be easy to forget his name. Obama made McCain look like just what he is.....an old man, out of his league with Obama. Anyone who doesn't look you in the eye when they speak to or about you, can't be trusted. Obama was far the better informed and prepared speaker. I'm not voting for either of them. The only candidate with stones enough to handle this problem was..............Hillary. But that's four years from now.

By refusing to sit down with world leaders for any type of talks unless they meet all of his conditions? By saying he was unsure if he would even meet with the Prime Minister of Spain? By singing songs in poor taste about bombing Iran?

How can he keep world peace if he can't even contain his own anger? He was sneering at Obama through gritted teeth for the entire debate. His anger and contempt for Obama was bubbling right under the surface.

To me, he looked like an angry old man, who is erratic and unstable.
