oh no Sharon, I just searched it for you, we cant accept it, it was published to late:(
"I Wanna Be Around" is a popular song.
The song is credited to Sadie Vimmerstedt and Johnny Mercer. Mrs. Vimmerstedt was a housewife [1] (or a beautician[2]) in Columbus, Ohio, who sent Mercer an idea for the song, as well as giving Mercer the title. The song was to be included as a part of The Beach Boys rock opera SMiLE, but they project was scrapped, but later finished in 2004 by Brian Wilson.
harrypotter u may give You Are My Sunshine a go it was done originally in 1939 and 1940 it's fairly an easy song to sing for those not familar with the big band era
JUST A HINT, WHEN YOU FIND A SONG YOU WANT TO TRY SEARCH IT BY SONG TITLE, THAT WAY IF SNAP DOESNT HAVE THE ORIGINAL ANY REMAKES WILL STILL SHOW UP FOR YOU, AND THEN YOU CAN DO THE REMAKE
Oh this will be fun! As to picking songs and finding out their year, these are two helpful sites. Leslie might recognize them from snapaholic contests. :)
Melody Lane gives a timeline of songs from 1840 to 1960, so would be a great one to bookmark for this contest especially. Also if we're going to sing from a specific year or decade, this is the site to check.
This next one just blows my mind. It's the Louise Hanson-Dyer Music Library and a priceless resource for singers, musicians, music/vocal students. Of particular help for us on Singsnap, check out the Popular Songs List. It has songs by title, year, and lyricist/composer.

Ok! First time I have done the Jolson version. The music was very loud but I couldn't get it much lower than I did.. hope this is ok!
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody)• Learn more about using Wikipedia for research •Jump to: navigation, search "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" is a popular song written by Jean Schwartz, with lyrics by Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young. The song was published in 1918.
Probably the best-known recordings of the song were by Al Jolson (who introduced it) and Judy Garland. It was also a hit for Jerry Lewis in the 1950s. Aretha Franklin also recorded a lesser-known version of this song, which reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Monique wrote: Aw shucks and I went and did Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy for my audition! I don't know if I know any others from that era but will be fun to try.
Theres no rule that says you cant do it again if ya really want to...lol
This nostalgic tune evokes memories of the 40s, in a way few others can do. It was written by Bud Green, Les Brown and Ben Homer in 1944. The vocal was sensitively done by Doris Day, despite unfounded fears of the extreme vocal ranges required. Some in the band first thought that the song was not going to connect with the kids, but at it's debut in the Hotel Pennsylvania's Cafe Rouge the kids went crazy! It was finally recorded at the Les Brown Band's first session after the infamous recording ban. Even now, nearly 60 years later, the song still pleases... and still calls to mind the names of Les Brown and Doris Day.

Happy researching!

"Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody" is a popular song written by Jean Schwartz, with lyrics by Sam M.

Here's Mine
Sentimental Journey--Doris Day--1944
http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/b711f55ac
Just some side info.....
http://www.thesjo.com/pages/dorisday.html
