Ok everyone accommodations have been made for the 1st Inaugural Chicago SingSnap karaoke party!!! Here is the scoop:
When: Friday, October 24, 6pm-2am
Saturday, October 25, 6pm-3am
Where: Diversey River Bowl

Cost: $25.00 per person in advance.
(If maximum capacity doesn’t hit, cost will be $30.00 at the door)
*** Maximum of 75 guests can attend this party!!!!! So, a confirmation of attendance will need to be given ASAP, including the registration cost. So HURRY UP AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION TO ATTEND!!!
The order in which the PAID confirmation is made, will be the order in which we will sing karaoke!!! Get to the top of the karaoke list, and reserve your fun with the CHICAGO SINGSNAP PARTY!!!
I am currently working with the owners of Diversey River Bowl to figure out a payment method for the registration of the party. Most likely, a form will be made for you to fill out your credit card information, so you can fax/email it directly to our venue to provide the costs of the party. The registration pays for the cost of the room and the karaoke equipment/setup/KJ for Friday night. TRUST me after searching long and hard, I’ve found an incredible deal here!
We will start collecting “paid reservations” after Labor Day (I’m guessing… September 3rd) so have your email sent to kevinballkevin@yahoo.com with the subject line: Chicago SingSnap party inquiry by then… so I can get the payment receipt to you. Again the FIRST 75 get in, and we need to have 35 paid reservations by September 15th to make this party happen!!!! Get to the front of that singing list!!!!
It is also assumed that we are to eat/drink at the party, as we have a bar in the room, and they supply plenty of appetizers and GREAT pizza. Again it was VERY challenging finding such a nice place that isn’t requiring hundreds or thousands up front for “guaranteed revenue” in food/accommodations, so, COME HUNGRY!!! (and drink haha!!)
I’m telling you peeps…. this room is awesome! The acoustics are FABULOUS for a karaoke group. We’re all going to have such fun and sound sooooooooo good!!

Another quick note... since I didn't mention this above... the Diversey River Bowl location is the DEFINITE, FINAL location for the Chicago Singsnap party. You can disregard any other options out there. So, FINALIZE those plans people!!!

Quick note everyone: the party was reserved for us, for 75 people... if we happen to be getting close to filling that capacity, I can call and make arrangements to have our group larger... the actual room WILL hold, over 120 people. So don't let the size of the venue, or the # of people affect your opinion on coming. PLEASE, COME IF YOU WANT TO!!!
As of now, we're not close to filling the 75 person max. I didn't want to commit to 120 people, then not even be close. That affects costs for the room/party. I hope that makes sense.
PLEASE GIVE ME THE HASSLE OF HAVING TO CALL AND RESERVE MORE SPACE FOR MORE PEOPLE. Lets blow this 75 max number out of the water!!!

(We have semi-tentative anniversary plans for the weekend of Oct 17. Beyond that I have no idea.)

Saturday, October 25th looks like the best date guys. The weekend after is Halloween, so the ones with little ones can be with their kids.....

Yep...one more. Looks like the premier karaoke bar in town is gonna be Trader Todd's. It's on N Sheffield Ave and they do karaoke EVERY night starting at 9pm. Maybe I'll start looking for hotels near that.

That sounds great!! I am going near the area tomorrow so I can go take a look of the place.
I wonder if the Oregon party people enjoyed singing in the banquet hall of their hotel room. THAT way we wont have to pay for additional parking, and worry about drinking and driving.
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS????? ANYONE?

I think its best to stay at the same hotel. That way there is NO parking, NO driving to the destination, you can crash when you want without infringing on others, you can take a snap nap!!;) hehehe, you can go freshin up in your OWN bathroom......
So, I say Wade, we keep it at the same hotel.
Any thoughts on this?
Also, Wade, When I went to the Florida singsnap event, we had to wait for 3.5 hours to sing ONE song. We had a party of 6 and we couldn't even chat with one another because it was SO LOUD!!!
Too bad they didn't provide and overflow room ;)

How much would it cost to use the Banquet Hall of a hotel? I can imagine it would be quite expensive. If I didn't have to travel across half the country, I'd bring all my own music equipment and we wouldn't have to rent any.

think we might be relying on you locals a little bit more to figure it out. i live in Vermont and have never been to Chicago. I can look at a few places online that have banquet halls and won't require a lot of transportation. maybe then you locals can research them?

There are a few hotels near O'Hare Airport that have Dining Rooms/ Banquet halls. And they're reasonably priced. There's also the Congress Plaza Hotel near McCormick Place.

Erin- Your idea sounds great, but the timing is lousy for me. I live in Iowa and am actually attending a karaoke national Summit for a now-(very recently) defunct karaoke site that was around for over ten years. I was on it for about half its life and this will be the first national meet-up of that group for me.
And of course, it's in Chicago, about a month before yours.
I'm too busy and broke to make it to yours, but I hope you have great attendance and success with your event so I can maybe come to one in '09.
I've tried floating the idea of an Iowa meet-up event here, but I've had no success, probably a combination of how scattered everyone is across the state along with the trend that it seems like about all the Iowa SS members prefer to sing at home and aren't into bars or live shows at all.
That's the complete opposite of me. I've been singing at k-shows for 18 years and even sung a few times with bands that let me sing a few with them.

Magic8ball (Kevin) has taken down several numbers of hotels that my sister Meganc has given me. He is calling and asking a lot of detailed questions. Bottom line...
We want a hotel to sing at, some offer free Banquet rooms if they are available, to avoid parking and to have the comforts of bring at home, kinda :)
We want to have discounts for a block of rooms
We want to be close enough to downtown Chicago, but not in Downtown, because the Hotels are VERY expensive.
Once a place that sounds reasonable is found, a few of us are going to take a trip there to see what they have to offer as far as cleanliness and space AND the things that were promised on the phone.
We will then have a place chosen, and start having people make accommodations.
We even started a committee of people that meet up to talk about what most would want.
The most important is to have fun and the cost be reasonable.
So many peeps coming ....... even making flight arrangements as I type!!! POST IT HERE SO EVERYONE KNOWS YOU ARE COMING!! ;)

ok everyone i will be looking into hotel accommodations, banquet halls, pricing, locations, possible restaurants, and flight/train information if anyone needs help with that. just post here and i'll be of assistance. I have spots to search, so by the end of this weekend, I should have posted detailed information as to where, when and how we're going to make this party work. Okay....I want to come badly...but I'm in South Florida...I am a lowly underpaid teacher....I need the best prices available. Will be able to find someone to room with to keep the cost down??
