***It didn't end in Sweden. As if Stockholm wasn't cold enough during winter, this crazy guy boarded a Scandinavian airplane and flew high up above the ARCTIC CIRCLE! The airport is called Kiruna and it's 15 min away from Jukkasjärvi.
The Arctic Circle is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. It is the parallel of latitude that runs 66° 33? 39? (or 66.56083°) north of the Equator. The region north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south is called the Northern Temperate Zone. The equivalent latitude in the Southern Hemisphere is called the Antarctic Circle.
The Arctic Circle marks the southern extremity of the polar day (24 hour sunlit day, often referred to as the "midnight sun") and polar night (24 hour sunless night). North of the Arctic Circle, the sun is above the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year, and below the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year. On the Arctic Circle these events occur, in principle, exactly once per year, at the June and December solstices respectively.
In fact, because of atmospheric refraction and because the sun appears as a disk and not a point, part of the midnight sun may be seen on the night of the summer solstice up to about 50? (90 km) south of the Arctic Circle; similarly, on the day of the winter solstice part of the sun may be seen up to about 50? north of the Arctic Circle. This is true at sea level; these limits increase with elevation above sea level, although in mountainous regions there is often no direct view of the horizon.
The position of the Arctic Circle is not fixed, but varies in a complex manner over time; see circles of latitude for information.
*** No hightech airports here cause its so far out of civilization so we had to use a ladder to unboard the aircraft.
Note: If you plan on taking this trip, don't be afraid to take the dog/moose sled to your hotel! I guarantee, you will have one of the best times in your life! You can even dress up like Santa and be like St. Nicholas of the day!
The ice hotel near the village of Jukkasjärvi, Kiruna, Sweden was the world's first ice hotel. In 1989, Japanese ice artists visited the area and created an exhibition of ice art. In Spring 1990, French artist Jannot Derid held an exhibition in a cylinder-shaped igloo in the area. One night there were no rooms available in the town, so some of the visitors asked for permission to spend the night in the exhibition hall. They slept in sleeping bags on top of reindeer skin - the first guests of the "hotel."
The entire hotel is made completely out of ice blocks taken from the Torne River - even the glasses in the bar are made of ice. The hotel has more than 80 rooms and suites, a bar, reception area and church. The hotel only exists between December and April. Each room is unique and the architecture of the hotel is changed each year, as it is rebuilt from scratch.
*** So there I was together with the other freaks too excited to get in the Ice Hotel and visit the suites. We got there by around 4pm and it's already dark. During the winter months, sunlight takes place for only 3 -4 hours then it gets dark again.
Note: If you plan to visit the Ice Hotel, DO NOT FORGET to bring extra winter socks and thermal under clothing! What they have is not enough!
Hello there, Adonix! We saw the feature of this Ice Hotel on TIVO - Discovery last month. It indeed is awesome! To think that they have to build every year in itself is quite a marvel! Thanks for sharing!
I took this photo of Poppy when she signed up for two full seasons of Antarctic cruises, from Ushuaia, Argentina and back onboard the German Ship, SS Hanseatic. There are too many details to talk about so I'll just give you the ship's website - it's Hapag Lloyd and this webpage tells you the cruises we were on for a full two seasons. They sell the parka model Poppy is wearing on that website too!
It's rare I have photos whilst I was on board photo manager on the ships I worked for, so on this Antarctic trip where I was Poppy's guest in her suite, I had the opportunity to have some of my photos taken. Here's one taken by Poppy of course. I thoroughly enjoyed those Penguins. They are the most curious of creatures. They are harmless and very respectful of each other and of people. If you happen to be in their regular path they will sit there until you leave or move away. They will not walk around you. They wait for that specific spot to be free again before they continue their trek. After this photo was taken, one of the curious penguins came very close to me, looked at my movie camera, and actually pecked on it! Poppy has that funny bit on video.
Glad you talked about the Arctic circle, Adonix. Poppy has been to the North Pole herself. I did not make it for that cruise, but she was onboard the Hanseatic again for the Arctic season and she also experienced the Hanseatic running aground during the ship's Northwest Passage! CNN came to cover the fiasco but it wasn't featured in the USA, rather featured more in Germany because it was a German ship full of German passengers. Poppy was mentioned in their popular magazines and newspapers saying that she continued entertaining that evening, even when the ship was aground. She should be scanning those photos one of these days!
I've been wondering about going on a cruise for as long as I can remember. I just can't find a friend who's as crazy as me. Kept telling my friends that I am going to circle the globe long before I get to walk in a cane or be in prisoned in a chair of wheels.
Totally awesome pics of the Antarctic! Someday I'd get to meet them and tell'm we know each other LOL!
Our dear Poppy truly is a professional!
There's a neat trick if scanning pics is a too much work.If you can set your digital camera to the correct macro, you can just take a picture of an old picture with the digital camera, given the correct angle and proper lighting, it will come out as good as scanned pics.
I do that all the time cause when I go visit my parents house in Manila, I don't have time to scan my old pics so I just flip the pages of the old photo albums and presto!
Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent, overlying the South Pole. It is situated in the southern hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14.4 million km² (5.4 million sq mi), it is the fifth-largest continent in area after Eurasia, Africa, North America, and South America. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice, which averages at least 1.6 kilometres (1.0 mi) in thickness.
On average, Antarctica is the coldest, driest and windiest continent, and has the highest average elevation of all the continents.[1] Since there is little precipitation, except at the coasts, the interior of the continent is technically the largest desert in the world. There are no permanent human residents. Only cold-adapted plants and animals survive there, including penguins, fur seals, mosses, lichen, and many types of algae.

We used to go to the Borobudur temples every week with busloads of passengers from the ship Song of Flower. We did the Indonesia-Malaysia cruises for a couple of years! Passengers, Ship Staff and Tour Guides would leave early morning and be back for a late supper. It was a full day tour and a most exhilarating and educational one.

Borobudur Temple
The name "Borobudur" is believed to have been derived from the Sanskrit words "Vihara Buddha Uhr" the Buddhist Monastery on the hill. The Borobudur Temple was built in the eighth century by the Cailendra dynasty and is located at Magelang, 90 km southeast of Semarang, or 42 km northwest of Yogyakarta. Visitors have the option of going by taxi or public bus to reach this temple. One of the world's most famous temples, it stands majestically on a hilltop overlooking lush green fields and distant hills.
Borobudur is built of gray andesite stone. It rises to seven terraces, each smaller than the one below it. The top is the Great Stupa, standing 40 meters above the ground. The walls of the Borobudur are sculptured in bas-reliefs extending over a total length of six kilometers. It has been hailed as the largest and most complete ensemble of Buddhist relieves in the world, unsurpassed in artistic merit, each scene an individual masterpiece.
The monument has been completely restored and was officially opened by the President on 23rd February 1983. The restoration took eight years to complete, funded by the Government of Indonesia with aid from the UNESCO and donations from private citizens as well as from foreign governments.
The Borobudur was in danger of collapsing as its stone statues and bas-reliefs was affected by stone cancer, moss and lichen. A large parking area is available not far from the monument, so private cars and buses can park in this area. During the Buddhist festival of Waisak in May, processions start from Mendut temple. Public transportation is available from the bus terminal. From that point visitors can hire becaks or horse carts, or walk the rest of the way to the monument.

PASSION ~ applies to an emotion that is deeply stirring or ungovernable like being a slave to ones passions. Fervor implies a warm and steady emotion like singing the song with great fervor. Ardor and enthusiasm - lively or eager interest and admiration for a cause or purpose, energetic and unflagging pursuit of an aim or devotion to a cause - all this point to my impression of our fellow romantic - Adonix. He doesn't take anything lightly. His passion is wonderfully and painfully obvious in his rendition of this love song. Take a listen and get carried away by passion's sheer force!
Fantastic places Poppy, Adonix, etc that you've been to. I haven't been beyond Hawaii yet! That was my last vacation two years ago. Must go somewhere abroad soon! You are so fortunate!

ONLY JUST ONE OF THE REASONS WHY TRINITYSINGZ2 IS SO WELL-LIKED, READ THIS - IN HER OWN WORDS: "I enjoy singing with others. I have a few special friends that I sing more with than others on here..but, its because our voices compliment one another and I don't have to practice all day/night trying to get it to sound right. I WILL NOT PRESENT SOMETHING IN MY SITE that will make another singer sound bad on my part. I have done a few mangles and those are where (for fun) we take someone's song and talk through it and make wise cracks. It's only done in fun and give someone who may be having a hard day....a good laugh! Thanks for being my friends and taking time to listen to me. *BIG HUGS FROM TEXAS* ~*Trinity*~"

*** Before going further inside the Ice Hotel, I saw on my left side a doorway. Turns out, it was the Ice Chapel so I started preaching. This is where many couples either get married for the first time or reconfirm their vows.
Ice Church in Jukkasjärvi
Eternal vows in an ephemeral church The need to show respect, to focus on one’s own thoughts and reflect on the nature of things is a feeling you get from an encounter with ICEHOTEL. Many pieces of life’s puzzle seem to fall into place here, in the ice chapel on the Torne River.
The ceremony and the unique experience of the place, the ice, the snow and the almost unreal environment leave no-one untouched. And perhaps the shared memories and experiences are stronger for the very reason that the chapel is impermanent. When no architectural memento exists, the memories and the vows exchanged are especially cherished.
Couples from all over the world come to Jukkasjärvi to pledge eternal fidelity to each other. Children from far and wide are baptized here. And already married couples can have their marriage blessed in the celestially beautiful ice chapel. ICEHOTEL can assist by providing formal requirements, such as an investigation as to possible impediments.
*** With the Ice Church/Chapel out of the way, it's time to hit the ICE BAR! This one is way better than the one I mentioned in the previous page.
Hot BAR for Cool Minglers
A place where all your senses are touched and warm lips leave impressions on the ice glasses, created from the pure ice of the Torne River. There is a cosmopolitan crowd mingling while sipping vodka cocktails created specially for ABSOLUT ICEBAR. When inside, reality seems very distant.
This has been the scenario since 1994 when ICEHOTEL and ABSOLUT caused a stir around the world. Together they created the world’s first ABSOLUT ICEBAR made entirely of ice in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. Ever since have bar guests been stunned by the dreamlike environment, created by skilled artists and craftsmen.
It is a far distance between ABSOLUT VODKA in the southern town of Åhus and ICEHOTEL in the northern village of Jukkasjärvi. Nevertheless the two companies are united by their appreciation of genuine crafts, their well documented history of creativity and design as well as their care for pure raw materials derived from a local source; winter wheat from surrounding farmers and spring water from an own deep well in Åhus and crystal clear ice from Torne River in Jukkasjärvi.
It’s easy to break the ice in ABSOLUT ICEBAR and thus many seeds of friendship have been sown. Bar life in the rocks is cool.

The perfect song meets its perfect singer, and they meld together perfectly. I believe that whenever the singer loves what she is singing, it is the perfect combination. I've known Mags for a couple of years now and each time we exchange notes and listen to each others music, I find that she educates me by singing the song she likes. Having brought up to entertain, I had often sang songs that others like because of the nature of the job. Hearing Mags sing this song reminds us to find those songs we owe to ourselves. Thank you, Mags, for reminding us, for educating me, and most of all, for your beautiful singing!

OMG, I would definitely checkout these cruises!
There's a neat trick if scanning pics is a too much work. If you can set your digital camera to the correct macro, you can just take a picture of an old picture with the digital camera, given the correct angle and proper lighting, it will come out as good as scanned pics.

Poppy ~ happy 1st year anniversary, pinoy singers society!!! ~We used to go to the Borobudur temples every week with busloads of passengers from the ship Song of Flower. We did the Indonesia-Malaysia cruises for a couple of years! Passengers, Ship Staff and Tour Guides would leave early morning and be back for a late supper. It was a full day tour and a most exhilarating and educational one.

Poppy ~ happy 1st year anniversary, pinoy singers society!!! ~Borobudur Temple

ADONIX - "PASSION AS PASSION SHOULD BE"
August 29, 2008 FRIDAY
Member: ADONIX
Song: Against All Odds
Artist: Steve Brookstein
LISTEN HERE: http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchAndListen/play/b2ff0469

TRINITYSINGZ2!!!
"SINGING THE SONG, AS IT SHOULD BE SUNG"
We listened and we declared, we couldn't hold a candle to this version!
September 1, 2008 Monday
Member: Trinitysingz2
Song: Old Flames Can't Hold A Candle To You
Artist: Dolly Parton
LISTEN HERE: http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchAndListen/play/bb10d4b18

The adventures of ADONIX continues.....
*** Before going further inside the Ice Hotel, I saw on my left side a doorway. Turns out, it was the Ice Chapel so I started preaching. This is where many couples either get married for the first time or reconfirm their vows.
Ice Church in Jukkasjärvi
Eternal vows in an ephemeral church
The need to show respect, to focus on one’s own thoughts and reflect on the nature of things is a feeling you get from an encounter with ICEHOTEL.

Lonote's Profile
Lonote is 66 years old, is located in Virginia / USA and has been a SingSnap member since October 26, 2006. So far he has made a total of 985 recordings.
LONOTE, IN HIS OWN WORDS...
"BORN - SOUTH CAROLINA, RAISED - GEORGIA, RESIDENTS - VIRGINIA. I returned to civilian life after four years active duty in the United States Air Force in December 1962 and after a few weeks obtained employment as a production process operator by day, while attending college classes by night. This position required process operations, swing shifts, and meeting manufacturing specifications, testing in a lab environment several days a week. I have held many positions during my career from on line operations, event scheduling to shift Supervisor. Planned and supported plant shut downs and startups. With a sound basis in production and operations my career moved into design engineering and process applications design when in 1965, several Firms and job promotions later I moved into management. During my career I qualified for and obtained my professional Engineering Control System license from the states of California and Wisconsin. After 35 years as a Registered Professional Engineer and engineering corporate executive, I retired in 2002 .... but I have recently (2007) been called out of retirement to complete humanitarian technology which I started in 1977.
God has blessed me and I am pursuing the ends of this 30 year effort. I am now President - CEO of a UNIFORMED PRIVATE R&D Laboratory with classified technology development activity in the areas of my three issued United States patents and two patents under development.
I come on to singsnap as I enjoy listening to my friends and chatting here from time to time. I find that singing myself relieves the stresses of the day.

SWEET AND SMOOTH AS HONEY, OUR MAGS!!!
September 5, Friday
Member: Mags
Song: Soon
Artist: Tanya Tucker
LISTEN HERE: http://www.singsnap.com/snap/watchAndListen/play/c212e8640
The perfect song meets its perfect singer, and they meld together perfectly. I believe that whenever the singer loves what she is singing, it is the perfect combination. I've known Mags for a couple of years now and each time we exchange notes and listen to each others music, I find that she educates me by singing the song she likes. Having brought up to entertain, I had often sang songs that others like because of the nature of the job. Hearing Mags sing this song reminds us to find those songs we owe to ourselves. Thank you, Mags, for reminding us, for educating me, and most of all, for your beautiful singing!
