Don't you ever offer any new songs for those of us who are not gold members? I can't remember, since I've been on singsnap, there being any new songs for everyone. Also, are you further pushing everyone to become gold(paid) members to even sing songs on the feature board? This is the second time in a week, where only gold songs can be sung for the feature.
Trevor announced a few months back, around May I believe, that for the foreseeable future no new songs would be offered to blue members. Since it appears you are fairly new, when singsnap first started, we had new songs every few days. There are over 12,000 songs on their data base for blue members to sing. As for the feature page, it was last week that they had a gold feature page. From the pattern I am see'ing so far it appears that they are making Friday the GOLD day cus that is when GOLD members recieve new songs. We do pay for the extra perks, so once a week, you don't get to be on the feature page. I am on the feature page maybe twice a month by coincidence, never bothered me once LOL.
This is a BUSINESS and for a BUSINESS to stay afloat they need to make MONEY. Simple as that ...

I don't see how people feel its their right to new songs. If you don't pay, be happy with the thousands of awesome songs you do have for FREE. I just don't get it, SS offers such a great service to us all Blue or Gold. If your not happy with the free service purchase the Gold Service. Just my Opinion. Well, here I am Steve, back again and right on schedule to say "nothing for me on the new songs this week", ha, ha!
Actually, I'm in no hurry for the three songs left from the Zoom library that I'm waiting for them to add. I've got several others to record first until then.
Tony, just remember to get around to adding Vicar In A Tutu and There Is A Light by The Smiths, along with Suedehead by Morrissey. All three are written and sung by Morrissey.
After that I'll just have to wait until they're finished with Zoom and move on, or back, to other labels again.

Steven_Kaplan is that an inuendo ? shorten my posts to 10,000 words or more ?
What is the likelihood of the Beatles, Stones, and a few other British Invasion groups being permitted on Singsnap ? Just wondering. Is there a reason that this particular genre is tougher to get permissible licensing for currently ? Perhaps on an international site the manus or amybe the digital millenium act, Harry Fox licensing ?? or something restricts use in accordance with geography making it not something this site can have ? Just wondering if in the not to distant future it's foreseeable that the Classic Rock biggies return from the British Invasion period of Rock and Roll, and of course the great balladeers such as James Taylor....Something seems to be restricting this genre.. Would be nice to know what it is.. Whatever it is, is acceptable, I just would like to know. There's obviously something preventing us from Beatles, Rolling Stones since we lost MANY pages of each.. and none of the content has returned regarding these artists.

I don't think so Tomac, I think they will be restricted to North America and Canada and not allowed in New Zealand, and Australia, however since Singsnap is in Canada, laws differ than a site that supplies backing from the United States.. There are SO VERY many aspects to this, and now given ONLINE backing cutting into the Sound Choice, Chartbuster, and other companies gaining revenue from people purchasing harddrives of music for home-use, which I'm sure differs from CD-G use since CAVS ran into probs via Hard drive compilations.. It's anyones guess what Singsnap might be facing so while I understand the complexities, I don't think the US will be blocked from the British invasion, however friends in NEw Zealand have NOT been able to listen to various songs I've sung here.. I don't know how current laws in this area affect Canada supplying international music backing... vs A United states site offering a site where singers can post using THEIR OWN singing using THEIR OWN backing compilations only (given a site disclaimer that states you agree to all legal aspects in your region etc), or a site that does not offer backings but is just venue only as in Singers Showcase (Karaoke Scene).
There are OBVIOUSLY HUGE differences and to be honest, I'm amazed Singsnap has as large a library as it does for ALL of us... So this isn't a complaint.. I'm just wondering how status changes in accordance with the genre I love.. That's all... Not criticizing, I know if singsnap could get these names back they would, but I'm wondering what the factors impeding the Beatles and Stones from being offered in Singsnap are at present.
An International site offering Karaoke backing must have a VERY VERY difficult time with copyright restriction and laws of ALL districts it supplies backings to.
Just wondering what it appears chances are of classic rock and ballad lost, returning.. Not obscure songs, however the top 10 songs that got airplay 60's and 70's regarding rock and classic ballad by these biggest groups of the mid-late 1960's

So you're saying, Steven, that you think the Brit Invasion songs, like the Beatles, would, if they came back on SS, be allowed in the US and Canada, but not in Austr./NZ, right? Are these songs already allowed on SS in Europe, just not North America?
Steven_Kaplan is that an inuendo ? shorten my posts to 10,000 words or more ?
Not necessarily because I have NO idea how sites that offer backings from Ontario are restricted or exempt from certain areas. Copyright is usually Federal (I believe) but that entails understanding how International Copyright works, and understanding within ONE bar in ONE district alone can be tough enough in the United States (IE..Jukebox act) where crowd, purpose, Time of day, Digital media, numbers etc all come into play. (and that was prior to compilation harddrives when I tried figuring that out by reading up on it)..
United States has a certain type licensing (I believe) and I think it requires three different licenses in this country alone ??? or ot did ?? remember Karaoke is Graphics too... not just music.. .. (Might no longer require three, I don't know)...While I can get these songs in the United States from Elsewhere (In the United States), Many are blocked in other countries when I ask a friend to give me honest feedback.. The song does not make it to them.. Also Hard drive compilation backings are a whole complex area too.. I have NO idea about SingSnaps library, Toronto Laws, if "Fair Use" and other aspects which differ dramatically even in one country alone NOW have to be cleared in EVERY single country of transmission and conform to ALL Governments, manus, original artists, or if there's a unified means of doing this for Trevor... I'd imagine there is A LOT we can't possibly grasp, and even US Copyright Atty's might have NO clue about International Copyright aspects, I think THAT is a different license perhaps... This is AMAZINGLY intricate.. Karaoke isn't just Music.. It's graphics... Is that Harry Fox for CD-G ? Not sure if it is for compilation Hard drives.... My guess is Europe also depends on Country and district as opposed to Continent... Canada likely does too (different provinces likely have differing laws and restrictions, and means of enforcement, exemptions, etc ??)... Here in the states "District" is a factor and it's nearly impossible for an Atty to figure out so much of this because as soon as one law my be established, media format changes ie... CD-G, now Compilation Hard drive (quite different I think), laws change, manus change, original artists change... Digital Millenium act and even Jukebox act regarding digital transmission in ONE type bar alone is tough to follow because often even THOSE laws are subject to numbers, time of day, purpose... etc...
It's wild...
(DISCLAIMER: I am stating what I've noticed by trying to understand commercial aspects of this in the US alone and it's brutal, I am not viewing this as an Atty, or offering anything from personal knowledge... I've just seen how COMPLEX and intricate this all is and EVERY tiny little nuance can dramatically change something, regarding Internet transmission of backings, and media type used I HAVE NO CLUE.. That is a WHOLE different very new area and a specialty within itself...Heck, different types of music are subject to different terms, there's even an area of this called "Parody Law".. It gets that intricate)
It would stand to reason that the songs and artists that are in greatest demand in the Western World have the toughest copyright laws Internatially ?? Since manus, original artists, and cover bands can call more shots remain obstinate by being exclusive and holding out.. . Cost and Demand ???
So manus or coverbands have to have clearance to produce backing also with Graphics.. (Was that what HArry fox was for CD-G?) Sony-BMG if it even applies to compilation HD via Internet, I don't know... manus must pay coverbands and get reimbursed for production to make it worth their while so they have their own restrictions on CD-G or Hard drive but they might not allow their material on a compilation HD such as the CAVS JB machines had ??... Now exponentially complicate that with International laws, agreements with certain companies.. in each of these areas ???? and Internet transmission laws, etc etc etc.... OUCH, this is VERY DIFFICULT
DUNNO !!!! Internet transmission laws ??? I HAVE NO CLUE... LOL..tough tough tough to understand..I have no idea how Copyright Attys can even keep up with these laws, as soon as one law is agreed upon media type and transmission differs throwing some wrench into stuff ??
Steven_Kaplan is that an inuendo ? shorten my posts to 10,000 words or more ?
Even with no graphics, you can be sure any coverband such as "First Singsnap band" would have restrictions too.. Even locally bands are required a license to cover, yet covering an area that is this visible and vast ? Some artists will want royalties for EVERY time a song is performed... Wonder how this compares to radio transmission internationally such as BBC Shortwave...etc
It's interesting to ponder, but I sure wouldn't wish to roll with the punches given how one tiny change snowballs all sorts of stuff.
Laws are slow to enact, but look how rapidly format shifting takes place ? How can a person keep up with this stuff given intricacies of what constitutes copyright infringement and when ? But this is Karaoke backing, and how laws now differ or stay the same regarding backing, means of transmission, regions... DUNNO
I would be fascinated to learn JUST how wild this gets transmitting in accordance to media type, location internationally using the computer/internet as the means... Just would make for a VERY interesting learning experience !
How do any of us (except administration) even know Singsnap could exist assuming the site was located South in New York in the United States ? Might not be able to at all !
Also makes sense why WE DON'T OWN songs our voices are on.. We don't pay for the individual backings and in a sense if we sing at a bar, we don't own the 3 minutes our voices sing to backing, the KJ bought the material and promises to adhere to copyright laws as a commercial provider of the backings of entertainment, the own THE ONE media form the music is on and must pay for it. They can't give it to another provider that can use the material legally.. They are bound by terms solely as the buyer for THEIR purposes... So how can WE own songs our voices are on ? We are borrowing backings from Singsnap, we aren't individually bound by the terms of the backings like SS is, we don't pay royalities or licensing fees.. Why should we OWN music our voices are on ? We can assuming we pay for a library of 15,000 songs, but we still couldn't transmit the songs commercially unless we were licensed to do that as well..
Steven_Kaplan is that an inuendo ? shorten my posts to 10,000 words or more ?
OK, reading about "The Canadian Copyright Act". (Now I'll keep my mouth and fingers shut)... Folks that are interested in this area can do some resourceful researching and try to find out areas from Franklin Pierce law library, and see how international copyright laws work and from where they might work... Even-so, we STILL won't have a clue..LOL

Steven_Kaplan is that an inuendo ? shorten my posts to 10,000 words or more ?OK, reading about "The Canadian Copyright Act". (Now I'll keep my mouth and fingers shut)... Folks that are interested in this area can do some resourceful researching and try to find out areas from Franklin Pierce law library, and see how international copyright laws work and from where they might work... Even-so, we STILL won't have a clue..LOL
