Can't seem to find listed the criteria for SS Hall Of Fame. Upon viewing many of the 50 pages it appears that some people are nominating (and getting posted) just about every song they sing. Also, kids are cute, and a few of them have marvelous voices for their age, but the multiple postings of them because of family pride is simply ridiculous!
There are some truly wonderful singers on SingSnap, in almost any song genre presented, but the HOF pages are too overloaded with a lot of the above mentioned screen hogs.
So, what's up with that, SS? Seems that limitations should be heavily imposed relative to quality, quantity, and longevity, in order for it to truly be a Hall Of Fame. If a "true" Hall of Fame is too difficult to set up and maintain then get rid of it, because the way it is set up is a waste of space and so very unfair to the majority your subscribers.
I don't know how the criteria could be set. I don't see and hear a lot of fine singers who should be featured this way, but I do hear singing Grannies warbling about "Balls", and other off-color renderings, and, bless their little pea-picking hearts, children who can't carry a tune in a bucket, and are in the HOF only because they're cute.
When one nominates a singer/song to the HOF there is obviously a waiting period to the next posting, but are they automatically posted or is someone deciding which of the latest nominations will make the posting? After all, the word "nominate" suggests only possible selection, not a done deal. And for a legitimate nomination (as well as all others), i.e., a quality singer and song presentation, isn't it rather meaningless to drop the posting after three months? I would think some sort of permanence is conducive to a true posting to the HOF. After all, is the inductee any less great after the three months?
Come on, SingSnap! Lets have a real Hall Of Fame and get rid of the current mockery!

Although I agree that the HOF does contain some recordings that are not necessarily fine music, I do believe we have to let the public decide what gets placed there, not just the select few that believe they know what it should be.

That is why I started Tigger's Corner, the best of singsnap, not a popularity contest, to get in, but certain rules and criteria,
showmanship
stage presents
vocal range and ability to sing
clear recordings

ohhhh someone got busted...lol

If you don't like HOF, just don't look at it..its really not a significant feature anyway. I've seen people solicit others to put this one in hof or that one in hof, and personally, i'd rather not beg anyone to put me in some silly pages that i never visit. lolol

I betcha only those of us who've never seen the HoF or don't have a chance in hell in seeing it, would call it a joke! :oP... haha!

I don't think it's representative of vocal talent but I think it certainly represents what the community appreciates.

I think it should remain a reflection of what the community appreciates no matter what the caliber of talent is, as long as the recording is of a Singsnap member making music.

when did popularity become a dirty word?

it's like - if you're popular and on the HOF, you should not be there because of it. why is that?

super models are on magazine covers because they are pretty. should that be a 'shame on them' ?

LupiAppleTushy asks, please keep good thoughts for joseph. thanks.

i agree with you too betty. wouldnt the world be a boring place if everyone had perfect pitch. I personally have nominated very few for HOF and they're expired now. (haha i just HAD to check) do we have 30 noms now as gold members? I have NO idea. Yesterday I think was the first day i looked at hof in months, because i read your other post, and then didnt bother to listen to any. but heres the other side of the coin...public appreciation is different than begging a vote. I think some people feel almost obligated to vote because they're asked to. I just wouldn't have the gall to do so, on my own or anyone elses songs. If i did, I think most people who REALLY know me would know who i'd want in hof. :) But i dont, and wont, and dont expect that. I'd never impose on anyone by asking such a thing and working on their heart strings. it's just not my way. :) So if someone is nominated by people who really appreciate them, then great, and i think thats saying something wonderful..but if someone is soliciting votes for that because this one is going thru this or that one is going thru a rough ingrown toenail, then naaaaa..its a begged vote and not worth much. Personally, when i get those solicitations in my pm, i automatically delete them. same for the come visit this song i so graciously sang for so and so. To each their own, but I just delete those as well, since most of the people who do that, i have NO idea who they are...lolol

Now, if it was a friend for a friend, then sure i'd go listen, but still doubt i'd nominate anyone. I just dont use those things.

Perhaps, but I'm sure there are also a lot of fine singers who will never appear in the HOF, for whatever reason. Not because of lack of talent, because I don't think talent is an issue in this case. Like Elvis, it's all in the marketing. ;p

Since there are well over 100,000 members by now, I'm sure (the article I read is dated by now) they can't all possibly be there... can they? lol

I think it's way too big, anyway. Just put the top vote getters for the past week in there, and let it cycle through. A top 100 would suffice.

I've nominated peeps but according to their singing ability. Not wether they are popular or not or wether I knew them or not. I thought they sang so fantastic, I nominated them.
Now wether I think the HOF is a joke or not, I don't care for it, I see no point in it. Have I been on the HOF? I have no idea lol. I was on the Top pages twice I think but only cuz I dueted with a real good singer( Dodge) and I had no clue I was even on it till someone messaged me about it lol. Like I said, I see no point in it. If ya want people to check out your song, promote it. Your friends are going to listen to ya and give you 5's wether you are on the HOF or not. So what's the difference? I am sure there is one but in my opinion, I don't see it :)
