due to cutting wood, i have ended up with a number of nice straight, slim branches which would make for some nice walking sticks... have a nice stave too, need some brass ferrules (or brass feet) to tip the end of them... stops them from getting mashed up on tarmac (asphalt)
i think i still have some deer horn up at my dad's to top one or two of them...

you'd probably like the stave that i have then... it's about 6'2" in length, also have a more slender 5' stave, and walking stick, and what, for lack of a better description, would be called a club... i think i'll need to make a foot for that... if i get creative i could take a broken umbrella and take the 3-4" spike off the end and mount it...
maybe a brass endcap on the top of it too....
course, if i can get real close to some of the blackthorns near me, i may be able to get myself a nice blackthorn walking stick :)

angimac going to soak in a hot bath and then to bed... g'night my friends
I generally use my plain old walking cane on the rare occasions that we go caching anymore... hubby has one of those telescoping aluminum hiking poles that he picked up I think when we were at the mountains in May...
I have always loved handmade walking/hiking sticks... they are beautiful

my dad is the one responsible for my interest in walking sticks, but he's a carpenter anyway... so i've always had an interest in wooden things, and given my location, the trimming of various trees can result in a wide variety of off-cuts that can be utilised for walking sticks...

We haven't had the opportunity to go in a while, but we enjoyed it immensely... Well, I enjoyed it a bit more when I could walk and hike and climb like a normal person... I hope to get back into it more again once my grand daughter gets old enough to go... at 8 months old, she isn't quite there yet... LOL

well i do a bit of "hedge hunting" at the moment, since people have decided to use part of the bureen to dump stuff... so i see what is salvageable and either use it or put stuff up on freecycle to try and rehome it...
the weather at the moment here isn't very conducive to spending too much time outside, but after winter is done it'll just be rainy season for another 9 months or so, so that's not too bad...
I used to geocache alot. Every chance I got. I was on a 2-year binge until I started to feel guilty about going to caches that were placed in spots where the local wild plants were getting stomped on to get to the cache.
It IS fun.

Oh how cool, walkingstick....
I always tried to stay on trail as often as possible.... then after I got myself hurt, I just stayed in the truck... I was the "driver" for a while... then I became the navigator so hubby didn't have to hand over the laptop every time we got to a parking coordinate... yes, we got THAT into it... we have 2 hand held Garmins... and the routing software loaded to turn the laptop into a large screen navigational system... with all the cache information loaded into GSAK database... and a box of "swag" was always in the back of the truck...
the best part was the hours we spent as a family on our caching adventures... then the kids grew up and didn't have time anymore :(

drinking coffee whilst singing?? that's a talent!
back when i was in uni i was terrible for multitasking.... in the evenings after my classes, i'd: watch a video play a computer game listen to music read
at the same time, and keep track of everything... oh, i'd occasionally be talking on the phone too....
Oh I remember my Grandpa had a walking stick and it told a lot of stories, cause he nailed those little souvenir thingies, can't think of the name of them, you can buy to show you where you have been, on them. In my mind I can still see his stick covered with them, and he would proudly show it off. His walking stick also had feet...lol...but I don;t think they where very fancy. His stick was a hand carved from from a nut tree. I loved that stick, wonder whatever happened to it.hmmmmmmmmmmm.

i've been peeling the bark off the sticks as they loosen... need to get some wire wool and some bees wax and i can polish em up real nice :)

but that's life... you just learn to deal with it... well, the choice is deal or go insane...

but I did most of my geocaching on my own.
It was a wonderful way to get exercise
in beautiful places
and have a fun treasure hunt at the same time.
Highly recommended for anyone going through life changes
as a form of therapy and escape.

I can only do a few things at a time ..
Drinking my coffee and listening ..
Or drinking my coffee and reading the boards ..
Or drinking my coffee and trying to see if I can sing a rendition of a song that someone might recognize as being the song I attempted.
I'm limited as to how many thing's I can 'juggle' at the same time.
