I'm sitting here with my back door open in 50 degree weather listening to the sound of pouring rain and it is such a soothing sound. It is almost intoxicating and the main reason I moved to Oregon, so i was wondering what are your favorite sounds
Reply by ma_elenaGOLD on December 2, 2008 at 3:47 AM
I have a few;.... besides hearing a baby coo, I love the sound of my grandchildren running around & laughing as the play in my backyard, the sounds of a burning fireplace, flowing water from a creek, river, or any stream, a bird chirping outside my window, thunder & lightning (not too loud), the wind whistling as it blows the trees outside, and their sound, the powerful but serene sound of crashing waves from the ocean. I just love the whistle from a passing train.
iffypresley happy birthday elvis..u are the best singer ever:)
i love the sound of dead silence in bed before going asleep..i love the sound of when ur sittin on the rocks next too the sea where its tinkling gently against the rocks..
and the sound of...yes!! yes!! yes!!. shes coming!! too the pub for a beer of course:)lol..
AmiQ alright ssers i'm back and i'm ready for yah! listening now!
I absolutley love the sound of water..whether its rain, the tap, a waterfall..a lake (since I don't live near the ocean)! Its the most soothing sound to my ears! I like the sound of a fire crackling...and belive it or not I like a clock ticking haha!
my kids laughter when their dad tickles them so much they turn red ... you know that laugh when its almost like they can't breathe they are laughing so hard and then its like burst of total joy...too funny
the sound of a toilet flushing (my kids potty training ok..lol)
I love the sound of the rain (when I am indoors of course) and the crackling of the fire but most of all, the key in the door when my hubby comes home from work :)
Reply by WhiskeyGOLD on December 2, 2008 at 1:55 PM
wow you all have such wonderful sounds! Shattering glass is strange but I think I can understand it. The sound of a good fart....LOL!! Babies. oh yes!! Another sound that I like is the sound of my hubby snoring. Not because it is especially pleasing to the ear but because it is pleasing to my heart just knowing he is there and it tends to give me a sense of security. And I too love the sound of that key in the door when he gets home :)
Yes I must admit that at times I enjoy the sound of hubby snoring. But I really love to have my head on his chest and listen to the combination of his steady breathing when he's sleeping and the sound of his heart beating.

how bout the sound of a teacher saying "Times up!" on a test? lol
Im big into the roar of a waterfall, the type where ya have to shout to be heard.Equally as much would be a non-damaging severe thunderstorm.I get chills of good anxiety from a good storm, like a kid listening to a good spooky story.

The swoosh of hitting a golf ball hundreds of yards!(in my case in the wrong direction, usually in the woods! or the local car park or at my golf buddy!)
hey soulrebel...I want to come along when you are hitting golfballs.....but you can aim towards a house so I can hear glass shattering...then we can speed off on the golf-cart.....and send a cash anonymously to fix the window to the house-owners.....

I love the sound of crickets :) Lol..
They remind me of my 1st holiday abroad to greece....bush loads of em around making that chirping noise (singing) my daughter Georgina has a lullaby and 1 of the sounds it plays in the background is of crickets and if I close my eyes I can feel the Greek atmosphere of that 1st ever holiday abroad and it sure feels good!
Heres a bit of useless information for you on them..
Crickets do not rub their hind legs together to chirp. The left forewing of the male has a thick rib (a modified vein) which bears 50 to 300 ridges. The chirp (which only male crickets can do) is generated by raising their left forewing to a 45 degree angle and rubbing it against the upper hind edge of the right forewing, which has a thick scraper (Berenbaum 1995). This sound producing action is called "stridulation" and the song is species-specific.
The memory of my mother's voice when I was little. The sound of doves cooing. Popcorn popping. Tea kettles whistling. My husband's breathing in the dark night as he sleeps... My daughter's phone messages...they're horrendous and I LOVE them...."Luuuuuuucy!!! Luuuuuucy! Are you there Lucy?"
Okay this is going to sound odd....but I love the sound of a loud air conditioner. When I was a little girl, my granny had this really loud air conditioner. I would sit in her favorite chair, cuddle up in a warm blanket, and fall asleep. I smile now when I think of that. I also loved her off key singing and the sound of my papa playing the guitar. What a joy to my ears that was.
bipolarbetty says: treating people nicely costs absolutely nothing.
My husband singing me to sleep, it's like a lullaby, no joke, he does this for me, and all my stress goes away, and I nap deliciously with his voice in my brain.

That IS a strange one....
I think I like that one as much as I like fingernails scratching on a chalkboard.....:-)
I really don't think there are any sounds that I'm particularly fond of....but there are plenty that annoy me...hehe...
I guess I'll just hum a few notes here of my favorite sound...
"And listen to the sound........of silence".....it's a rarity in my house....
