TracyB whine whine whine. moan moan moan. blah blah blah.

This challenge is open to all. It runs until Tuesday, July 22 at 6PM EDT . Its purpose is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved. Everyone who participates is a winner.

This week my co-host is Ally!

PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES AND THE THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING

1. Post ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme. You may post a THIRD one on or after Thursday. You may post a FOURTH song on or after Saturday.

Your song can be a new song or one that was already recorded.

**2. For EACH song you post, listen to at least SIX other people’s songs and leave feedback. That means, if you post 2 songs you should listen to 12 others over the course of the 7 days of the challenge, a little less than 2 a day. If you post 3 songs, listen to 18 others and so on. You may, of course, listen to more if you choose.

Listening is the most important part of this challenge. Supporting and experiencing others is what it’s about.

3. We prefer to listen to the whole song. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well.

4. Please do not post glitter or large graphics as feedback or in the thread.

5. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end. Just be aware that the closing hours of the challenge are better suited to listening than trying to squeeze in a last minute post.

6. Please avoid making multiple posts in a row by going back and editing your posts if you left something out. You have 30 minutes after you post to add to or correct your post by using the EDIT button.

Please visit our HOME PAGE for a great deal of useful information by clicking the link below. You will find answers to your many questions, including tips about how to post links and how to edit your posts, our FAQ, our chat room entrance, live recordings from our chat room and our birthday calendar.

Everyone's A Winner Challenge Home Page and Chat Room Entrance

New challenge themes are announced every Tuesday at 6PM EDT .

Everyone’s A Winner Chat Room
We have our own chat room where you can sing live or just listen to and chat with others in this community. It’s a lot of fun and a great crowd of friendly people. Come hang out with your new online friends.

We have regular, rather lengthy gatherings as follows -
Thursday beginning at 7PM EDT (4PM PDT/11P GMT)
Friday at 6PM EDT (3PM PDT/11PM GMT+1). Often there’s a late Friday one too.
Saturday around 8:30PM EDT (5:30PM PDT / 12:30AM GMT )
Sunday afternoon Occasionally we have Sunday gatherings
EDT=Eastern Daylight Time PDT=Pacific Daylight Time GMT=Greenwich Mean Time

But you are welcome in there at any time as long as you follow the guidelines. If you want to organize a gathering at other times, you can invite others to meet you with PMs or by mentioning it in the challenge thread.

To get into the chat room, use the login at the bottom of the Home Page.
If you've not been to the chat room before or if you need to brush up on the guidelines and how it works, please read item # 11 before entering.
-------------------------------------------------------

The theme of this challenge is Food, Drink and Gum!

It’s easy enough, your songs can have a food or drink in the title, anywhere in the song, or in the artist. Or, they can be bubblegum songs—more on that to follow.

I’ve found some lists with songs about food and/or drink. (Note that there are some naughty titles in the drink list, which I suppose may repel or attract you. ;)) Of course, most of these won’t be on Snap, but it may inspire you to find something else. Feel free to rewrite lyrics of an existing song to make it fit! Use your imagination! There are songs that are not specifically about a food or drink, but would certainly fit, like “Brandy” or “Sherry”. You get the idea! And I certainly don't mean just alcoholic drinks--any beverage will do!

Songs about food

Songs about drinks

OK, Bubblegum! Here’s a great explanation from Wikipedia: “Bubblegum pop (also known as bubblegum rock, bubblegum music, or simply bubblegum) is a genre of pop music whose classical period ran from 1967 to 1972.[1] The chief characteristics of the genre are that it is pop music contrived and marketed to appeal to pre-teens; is produced in an assembly-line process, driven by producers and using faceless singers; and has an intangible, upbeat "bubblegum" sound.[1] The songs typically have singalong choruses, seemingly childlike themes and a contrived innocence, occasionally combined with an undercurrent of sexual double entendre.[2] They also have a catchy melody, simple chords, simple harmonies, danceable beats, and repetitive riffs or "hooks". The song lyrics often concern romantic love, but are notable for their frequent reference to sugary food, including sugar, honey, jelly and marmalade.[1]”

Wikipedia Bubblegum info

Bubblegum music is a kind of subjective term. The Archies are the epitome of bubblegum. A cartoon band singing a song called “Sugar, Sugar”? Oh, yes! Many aficionados limit the description to the previous paragraph and don’t consider teen idols bubblegum. I’m not going to worry about that so much—a lot could go either way. BUT…not every pop song is bubblegum!!!

Above all, I wanted us to have a fun and light last challenge before summer break, so please, let's all have fun out there!! :D

OK, my first song will be one from the great Tony Burrows. Never heard of him? You've probably heard him! He was the lead singer on "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" by Edison Lighthouse, "My Baby Loves Lovin' " by White Plains, "United We Stand" by Brotherhood of Man" by The Pipkins, and others. Bubblegum-a-licious! Faceless bands and yummy pop!

Here's Beach Baby by First Class (Tony Burrows sang lead on the original).

Well this is sort of a stretch... but I did a "happy birthday" song this morning for the EAW room... Of course then I saw that our beloved Bean ( KristiJane) had beat me to the punch by almost an hour...

Nevertheless... I still wanted to post mine.. so.......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EAW

(Hot chocalate is a food isn't it?)

Now I'm just going to sit wait here for these cool songs to come pouring in and do some listening while I ponder which bubblegum artist I'm a' gonna go after for my second post....

CHALLENGE UPDATE

Hi everyone! First off, once again let me say

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE'S A WINNER!

ONE YEAR OLD TODAY!!!!

Thanks everyone for making the Everyone's A Winner Challenge such a special place to hang out. Thanks for making hanging out in our chat room so much fun. And thanks for doing all of this without any of the drama that infects similar undertakings elsewhere.

This is the final challenge before our summer break. We WILL keep the chat room open during the 6 week break and we will have an EAW thread running during those 6 weeks so people can stay in touch and make plans and post songs. That thread will launch next Tuesday.

We will resume regular challenges Tuesday 9/2.

Tracy & Ally, this is a wonderful Challenge theme. Ah, the music of my youth, long ago and far away. I had promised myself that I would avoid bubblegum songs when I joined SingSnap, but this is a great reason to reverse that decision. When you read my song info you'll understand why I chose this song...

1, 2, 3 Red Light by the 1910 Fruitgum Company

I've gotta laugh though. Last night, I worked on a very challenging duet with fire4yahweh... House of Love by Amy Grant and Vince Gill and tonight this simple little melody/lyric from the the mid-1960s.

*** Happy Birthday to the entire EAW family ***

OK, I believe I've heard one from everyone, so I'm heading off to bed. I'll leave you with the insightful words from a bubblegum song I downloaded (for free--such value). The song is called..."Hot Pants". Here's the inspiring chorus:

You've got hot pants, they come in purple and green
You've got hot pants, in pink and tangerine
You've got hot pants, they come in red, white & blue,
You've got hot pants, baby, I love you

(it's just as terrible as you think it might be)

Hi Tracy, Ally, and everyone!!!

I always love it when I get the chance to join the challenge.
This is a great theme and I found a song I did awhile ago that definitely fits the theme. The title has "Honey" in it. And some of the verses are "Pour me a cold one, give me something to eat, fix me up my favorite treat." If only there were a reference to gum, I'd have it covered in every theme. LOL!!!!!!! I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

This group's greatest success was "Bend Me Shape Me" written by Scott English ("High On A Hill" fame) and Larry Weiss. Various personnel and name changes ensued-from "The Breed" to "Smoke" and then evolving to R&B Funk as "Ask Rufus" (which eventually changed to just "Rufus"--with Chaka Khan eventually). Drummer Fischer later married Natalie Cole. Who knew?
