Posted by BronxBruceGOLD on October 2, 2007 at 6:11 PM

This challenge is open to all. It runs until Friday Oct. 5 at 6PM EDT. Its purpose is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved. Everyone who participates is a winner.

PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES AND THE THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING

1. Post ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme (one is preferred but two are ok). If you have to, you may post a third and final one on the second day of the challenge. You may post a new song or one that was already recorded. You do not have to post a song to participate.

**2. For EACH song you post, listen to at least THREE other people’s songs during EACH day of the challenge and leave feedback. That means, if you post 2 songs you should listen to 6 others each day (12 total). Listen to as many as you wish but make sure you listen to at least three each day per song you post and leave feedback.

Listening is the most important part of this challenge. Supporting and experiencing others is what it’s about.

3. We prefer that you listen to the whole song rather than listening to 10 seconds so there's no need to try to listen to everyone. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well. The quality here is so good, you may find yourself doing more listening than you expected.

4. Although you may choose to post a tiny graphic with your comments, we ask that you do not post large glittery graphics as feedback.

5. Come back to the current challenge thread and write about your experiences. Mention songs you heard or anything else that strikes you, suggestions, etc., or not. Completely up to you. And please go back each day and listen to others. That's the most important part of this.

6. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end. Just be aware that the closing hours of the challenge are better suited to listening than trying to squeeze in a last minute post.

New challenge themes are announced by 6pm Sunday and Tuesday. On the weekends we do challenges LIVE in our chat room. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday they begin between 6PM and 7PM EDT. But you are welcome in there at any time. To access the room, learn how to use it and read the room guidelines, follow the link below.

Take Me To The Everyone's A Winner Chat Room Now!
--------------------------------------------------------

On Monday, Lois Maxwell who played Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, passed away. She was the last of the actors who played the three main supporting characters. Bernard Lee who played Bond’s boss “M” in the first 11 films, died in 1981 and Desmond Llewelyn who played “Q” and appeared in the most Bond movies of any actor, 17, died in a car accident in 1999. We honor these actors with our new challenge.

Our theme is James Bond. Post any song that fits any of the following criteria –

- A James Bond theme song.
- A song written by Bond composer John Barry.
- Any song from any spy movie or about spies.
- Any song that has "Money" or "Penny" in the title.
- A song sung by any artist that has done a Bond theme song . There’s over 200 songs from these artists on SingSnap The artists are Matt Monro, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Nancy Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Paul McCartney or Wings (not the Beatles), Lulu, Carly Simon, Sheena Easton, Rita Coolidge, Duran Duran, A ha, The Pretenders, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, Madonna and Chris Cornell.

That’s a lot to choose from. But if that's not enough to choose from, use your imagination and post a song that you think in some way evokes Bond or one of the characters or elements from his films. Be sure to let us know what that is.

To start us off, here are 2 Bond themes I have sung.

My latest, from the 2nd Bond film, considered by critics to be one of the series' best. It was released in 1963 and starred Robert Shaw who later went on to fame as Quint in "Jaws." The title theme was composed by John Barry and sung by Matt Monro.
From Russia With Love

And an old one from the 3rd and considered by most to be the best Bond film. Released in 1964, it certainly took the series to new heights. Trivia tidbit - Gert Frobe who played the villain Goldfinger had a heavy German accent so his dialogue was all dubbed by another actor. Famous line - "Do you expect me to talk? No, Mr. Bond! I expect you to die!"

The title theme hit #8 on the pop charts. It was composed by John Barry and Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and sung by Shirley Bassey.

Hi, Bruce! What a cool theme!!

Well, I spied through my older recordings and came up with this one:

Nobody Does It Better

This is from "The Spy Who Loved Me," which is the 10th James Bond film, released in 1977.

TracyB there is an error mixing my song. :(

True story...my maiden name is Bond. When my mother was pregnant with me she was reading "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". James Bond actually gets married in that book, but of course his wife is doomed. Her name was Teresa di Vincenzo, but her nickname is Tracy...hence my name! Info about: Tracy Bond

So, I'm very excited about the theme! :D

OK, I couldn't resist, although I recorded it at that 'other place' so I wouldn't get arrested by the Snap police! I recorded my first song there in 3 months just for this challenge!

Linky to the theme from Octopussy

It sounds kind of weird, because I had to use my little USB mixer, but I like that song, and they don't have it here yet.

It actually sounds kind of bad, so feel free to ignore...

That's not only perfectly OK Rachel but it is exactly in keeping with this challenge theme. ANY song by an artist who has sung a Bond theme is welcome.

Also exactly what I am looking for Kathy. Exotic women, guns; sounds like 007 to me.

CHALLENGE UPDATE
I am also adding the following artists to the list of eligible artists for this theme:

k.d. Lang (did the end credits song for Tomorrow Never Dies)
Herb Alpert (did the theme for Casino Royale, an "unofficial" Bond film)
Lani Hall (did the theme for Never Say Never Again, another "unofficial" Bond film)
FYI, Lani was also the vocalist for Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66

Well, I've heard some GREAT songs so far. Make sure you check out sixstringsteve for a rockin' Chris Cornell tune. Welcome to all the new comers as usual. Please remember to check the guidelines at the top of this page. Most importantly, listen to at least 3 other folks each day for each song you post.

I agree with everyone who's posted here, this should be an awesome challenge but it's off to a bit of a slow start. Maybe folks are tired after last week's Sexxxy Challenge. LOL. Well, sexxxy and Bond go hand in hand. Or maybe tired from those late nights in our chat room. Hopefully it'll pick up the pace tomorrow.

The good news is I've managed to hear almost everyone so far. And I just heard Howard's Spy Hard which he hasn't yet posted, which is awesome and reminds me, for more song ideas, check out the Austin Powers soundtracks.

See you guys tomorrow.

I'm gonna go "Authentic James Bond Movie Soundtrack" on this one. :)

A View To A Kill by Duran Duran

http://www.singsnap.com/snap/r/bbc450ea

From Wiki:

A View to a Kill, released in 1985, is the 14th film in the James Bond series and the seventh and last to star Roger Moore as MI6 agent James Bond. The title itself is adapted from Ian Fleming's short story "From a View to a Kill", contained in the For Your Eyes Only collection of short stories released in 1960; however the title and a Paris location is where the similarity between short story and film end, making this the third completely original Bond film after The Spy Who Loved Me and Octopussy.

The film does however take an idea from the James Bond novel Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger. In the film, Bond is pitted against Max Zorin, who plans to destroy California's Silicon Valley.
