Lol yep! I was visiting someone recently. We went to get her prescriptions...at a drive-thru, then to the fast food drive-thru, and THEN to her bank drive-thru. Sit and sit is what we did. It felt ridiculous. The worse part was that we were in her huge luxury 4 door gas hog. It was almost embarressing.
Exactly the same feeling I've gotten lately and this one day at KFC I nearly had a 'freak out session' lol. It took forever, at least 10-15 mins, of idling. Thanks for mentioning that, I forgot about the pharmacy drive thrus, another on the list.
I'm trying. It's a hard habit to break. I was good and went inside Chick-Fil-A the other day, and I actually LIKE their drive-thru--it's always very fast. Another fast food place I like (Schlotzsky's) doesn't have a good place to stand and wait for your order, so I do prefer the drive-thru, but I'll make myself go in. I'm trying to be good and bring healthy lunches to work anyway, so maybe it'll be moot for me soon. My banks both have branches near my work, so I try to walk to them when I need to.
Then there's Starbucks, if the one near me stays open, but I prefer going inside there anyway. There's going to be a branch of a local independent coffee shop opening a few blocks from me and I'll be going there when that opens. There's no place for a drive-thru there, so that's good!
I will no longer be stopping at red lights either! ok well maybe that's a lit'l dangerous so maybe we'll just have to deal with that or take a route with fewer traffic and lights if possible.

I know it's a tough habit to break, and one I'm not accustomed to either. You sound like you have it worked out though and I did think of some ways I could still use the drive thru, mainly at the bank. Sometimes I pull up and if theres no one in line, I turn my car off and conduct my transaction. This is essentially like going on being you turn your car off and never had to wait and idle the car in line. Also, if there was like a storm or the like and I might still go in the drive thru.

LOL! Yeah those red lights are a big time gas waster and I have read of motorists turning off their engines at the stoplight they know are extremely long. BUT the story also said it highly didn't recommend doing this because of safety issues.

Hahaha nice one lol ...
Made me laugh.
I don't drive anymore, well only people round the bend if that counts lol
It's nearly $12 per gallon back in the UK. Glad I don't live there anymore.
Here in Spain the traffic lights only have red and green. Not many have red, amber and green so you would save a tad in petrol here hehehe

I'm making a rule starting this morning: NO MORE SHALL I SIT IN A DRIVE THRU FOR A BANK/FAST FOOD, I SHALL GET OFF MY A$$ AND WALK INSIDE.
Idling motors is a big time gas waster and I know doing this will save me money. Imagine nationwide how much of a savings that would be!?
Just my 2 cents, my 2 cents is free.
