Since no one answered here it is:

They would be pushed under water..

Witches were thought to be made of wood, and since wood floats, a witch would float, and if she floated she was guilty and would be put to death. If they drowned they were found to be innocent(and dead) lol

the thing that sucked about water trials is that the woman was either buckled in or had to hold on... and well when you pass out sometimes you float to the top... you'd get revived and then burned... WEEE!

what sucks worse- women were still wearing corsets in those days... it was hard enough to breath as it was... but when they passed out from holding their breath, the corset would prevent them from inhaling enough water to drown.... so... quite a few of them DIDN'T drown, and were burned as witches!!!
