This challenge is open to all. It runs until Sunday at 8PM EDT. The purpose of it is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved and no "winners" will be announced. Everyone who participates is a winner. The rules are simple.
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BEGIN POSTING
1. Post the link to a song that fits the theme. You can record a new one or use an older one but do not post more than 1 or 2. If you feel the need, you may post an additional song or two the next day but don't feel you have to keep posting new songs every day.
**2. For each song you post, listen to at least 3 other people’s songs during EACH day of the challenge. Listen to as many as you wish but make sure you listen to at least 3 each day.
3. We'd prefer that you listen to the whole song rather than listening to 10 seconds so there's no need to try to listen to everyone. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well. The quality here is so good, you may find yourself doing more listening than you expected.
4. Although you may choose to post a tiny graphic with your comments, we ask that you do not post large glittery graphics as feedback. You don’t need to post anything more than “nice job” if you’re stuck for words.
5. Come back here to the thread and write about your experiences. Mention songs you heard or anything else that strikes you, suggestions, etc., or not. Completely up to you. And please come back each day and listen to others. That's the most important part of this.
6. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end. Just be aware that the closing hours of the challenge are better suited to listening than trying to squeeze in a last minute post.
7. New challenge themes are announced by 8pm EDT Friday, Sunday and Tuesday.
Have fun.
----------------------------------------- Tonight's theme is American Masters. Record a song or post a pre-recorded song that was written by one of the U.S.A.'s master composers of the first half of the 20th century. This basically means classic songwriters prior to the rock era.
Some examples are Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Hoagy Carmichael, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Woody Guthrie, Oscar Hammersetin, Lorenz Hart, Jerome Kern, Frederick Loewe, Henry Mancini, Cole Porter, Richard Rogers, Steven Sondheim and Muddy Waters.
Songs by these composers are often sung by people like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and Judy Garland.
Here's an excellent starting point to see some of the songs written by American Masters.
well, it's a more contemporary version of it, but here's my rendition of Eva Cassidy's Over The Rainbow that I recorded in July, written by Harold Arlen...
KittenKat once again i say happy friday!!! it's the weekend!!
Cool! I love this kind of music, but haven't done too much of it yet--I'll give it a try though! After the last challenge this should be easy--not!haha!!
walkingstick has one more sleep before her vacation! :)))))
I would be excited about this normally, but I'm too danged tired. May or may not see you here, depending on whether I can catch up on enough sleep to muster some enthusiasm.
Okay I think I've found something, after a lot of racking of my brain and er, searching and searching... Hmmm bet someone has recorded it by the morning ... I'm still learning it ;-)
I think I'll have fun listening to you all though...
Ooooh, good theme, Bruce--right up my alley!!! :-))))
Unfortunately, I'm leaving really early in the morning to go to Newport, so I won't be able to listen at all, therefore I won't post anything. But what a bunch of fantastic songs there will be waiting for me when I get back on Sunday! These songs are my FAVORITES!!!!
Have fun, and I'll catch up with you all on Sunday!

Well, this challenge is going to be tougher on me than I thought. First off, too many songs to choose from. And, second, I am never going to be happy with the final performance. Too picky. So I am trying to do first or second takes only. Hey! That might be another challenge.

I always loved this sing since I was little and watched the movie on late night tv--it had Kim Novak singing center stage swinging on a heart--it was the most mezmerising scene in the movie for me. So, I had to give it a try!!
Remember there are American Masters in Country, Folk, Jazz and Blues as well as pop standards. So go to town and have fun. And don't forget to give a listen to the other folks.
