I think more songs should be added for those of us who have not subscribed to singsnap gold for various reasons. There is a long list of songs many of us are restricted to but would still enjoy recording.
Trevor has recently stated that for the foreseeable future, all new songs will be exclusive for gold members. If that is something of value to you, then perhaps it would be worth the Gold Membership to you. If not, that is your choice.
go over to mp3s then the problem is taken care of. and you dont mind paying. this is very boreing and a cheep way of singing. id pay if it was mp3 no problem.
I'm shocked seeing all the new songs in the past weeks (!) are categorized as gold.
I understand that obtaining the licenses for the songs and the hosting stuff consumes a lot of bucks, but turning this fine site completely into a "Pay-for-Karaoke" site is a shame in my eyes.
I already turned away from Singshot in the past when it was Sim-alyzed in the worst kind of way by Electronic Arts. Now this place is becoming a whore (sorry for my rude words). This is sad :(

Looks like I'll head towards talentrun.de ...
heh... snap has 15,000 tunes available to everyone for free... the site you are "heading towards" has all of, what, 825 songs???? bahahahaaaaaa
a free account on snap is way better than any other free karaoke site... period... if that's not enough to make you happy, then go gold... cuz if you leave snap, it's all downhill....
xenomark wrote: heh... snap has 15,000 tunes available to everyone for free... the site you are "heading towards" has all of, what, 825 songs???? bahahahaaaaaa

still LOL @ how you think 825 > 15,000......
I never said Talentrun got more songs, I refered to their policy of being and staying a completely free Karaoke portal. Of course I agree Singsnap got way more songs, thats a fact, but: quantity > quality? No way dude.
Everyone has his own taste of music, especially Americans seem to enjoy that Country stuff alot. Well, not me. 5,693 Country songs are more then a third of all songs here, so don't tell me numbers.
Okay, so Talentrun doesn't have as many songs (yet?), but they're adding more and more...songs that most people know and like, at least in my opinion. I've found some ones at Singsnap I never heard of, even when I'm a fan of their artists.
We'll see how this whole situation on both sites developes. At the moment, I'm still disappointed.
By the way...it would be nice for both of us if we were talking a little bit more like adults, not like some childish gamer kids. Don't you agree? :)
LordExodus wrote:By the way...it would be nice for both of us if we were talking a little bit more like adults, not like some childish gamer kids. Don't you agree? :)
You overlook the obvious distinction that xenomark is, in fact, a childish gamer kid. ;)
Besides, it wasn't Mark who called this site a "whore" and whined he would run off to .de .
SS is overwhelmingly a free karaoke site, and if they never add another "free" song it will continue to boast an enormous amount of content for no cost whatsoever.
But - new content is obviously an area that is of value to potential subscribers. Indeed, based on the numerous threads on this subject -- it seems to be THE biggest incentive that would encourage free members to upgrade to Gold. Why should SS not use that resource to help build its paid member base, increase revenue and use those funds to add more features?
FleaCDP wrote: You overlook the obvious distinction that xenomark is, in fact, a childish gamer kid. ;)
He is? Well, I don't know him...whatever, at least he doesn't use d00dsp34k :P
Back to topic: Obviously you're one of the people who actually can afford paying $7 a month for Singsnap (or could, don't know if Gold content is a benefit for being a contributor). Karaoke, being a hobby of mine, should be worth paying this small amount of money, too. But I'm one of the people who have to count every cent, having a wife and a child at home while working for a wage below average...sorry, I've started to "whine" again :) That's why I replied in this thread, because I fully understand the thread starter bambalicious.
I was hoping that more songs will be added here in the future that fit into my personal preferences (definately not Country). Now I have to take what is there. You may call it "whining", I call it a fact.
Your last passage proves that I was right with the w-word (I didn't want to insult anyone with it, I just compared). You described in detail how this place turns into a commercial platform, a 180 degree turn from what it was before. I guess my posting wasn't criticized by two "contributors" by chance ;)
Okay, I'll stop complaining. It's time for bed :)
A personal question...I'm not the first to tell you that you look like Robin Williams on your avatar pic, am I?!
I was teasing about mark, although it might be a stretch to ask him to act like an adult. :)
So by your definition EVERY commercial venture which attempts to earn revenue is a "w"? Does not SS have the right to gain some sort of benefit from the money and effort they put into this site? Or must they continue to front all costs for site development, server space, and music content, and give it away for free?
I do not receive anything from SS for being a "contributor" other than the grief I get on the message boards from those who make assumptions because my name is in purple. I paid for my gold membership, because it seemed worth the money to me to have access to the new songs. I also have a tight budget and must make decisions about where my limited disposable income can go. To me, it means buying one less lunch out a month or skipping one movie night. Is that worth the $7 for me have access to the new songs? Yes.
You may decide -- for whatever reason -- that it is not worth the money to you. That's fine. That's what choice is all about. And you are not alone - there are many people who have decided that the new songs and other extra site features are not worth the money to them.
No commercial venture ever succeeded which did not provide a service or product for which people were willing to pay. If not enough people are willing to pay for SS's premium content, it will not last long as a commercial venture and it will return to a basic internet karaoke site with minimal features and most likely little, if any, additional content. More than likely -- the costs involved in keeping this a completely free site would make it financially impossible to sustain in its current format.
Thanks for your answer, I think understand your point better now, and you made me think about the whole thing. But it doesn't change my basic opinion that it's sad how the situation developes - the fact that ALL future songs will be Gold only is the worst one for me.
I mean, there are so many possibilities that aren't so...radical. 1 of 10 new songs should stay free, and later the Gold only songs could become free, too (maybe after 3 or 6 months or so) - like new movies on Pay-TV :) . The number of storable songs for free members could be lowered to avoid excessive usage of hosting space, or ads could shown when free members are logged in. But I think the staff of Singsnap already considered ideas like that.
Well, I can't do nothing about it and have to live with it. And there ARE still a few free songs left at which I want to try myself ;)
but seriously... snap wants to encourage members to "go gold"... they already offer way more free content and features than any other site.. by adding more free stuff, it would be counter-productive to their goal of getting more paid members...
personally, if i were to create a site as awesome as this, it would all be "pay only"... hehehe... maybe i'm not as generous as trevor... but, regardless, the entertainment i get from the site is worth WAY more than $7....
btw, i couldn't really justify paying $70 out of my bank account for a website membership either (wife would strike down upon me with great vengeance and furious anger)... so instead i did some side work for a friend, and she sponsored me...
it's only a quarter a day... even if you can't afford it EVERY month, wait a couple months, go gold for one month, and catch up on all the gold releases you wanted to sing... do that every 3 or 4 months.... most of the gold songs are stuff i've never heard of anyway... most of the ones i have heard of are alternate versions of songs already available here for free... so to me, the gold-only songs aren't the reason i wanted to pay for a membership... i find the site as a whole to be well worth the money, and i want it to continue to grow...
Exodus - i think it's just that you're looking at it from a different perspective than Singsnap. You want SS to give you just enough for free that will allow you to get what you want without paying for it. That's great, for you, but it does not help SS, if the gold incentives are not worth paying for. So to make gold membership "worth it" they decided new songs is something that many people WOULD be willing to pay for. I hear what you're saying regarding opening those songs up to others eventually, but if that were the case, I certainly wouldn't feel the need to pay for it, but would rather just wait until those songs became free. So would a lot of people. And gold membership numbers would plummet.
Bottom line - SS is doing what it thinks best to attract paying members - this should not be a surprise to anyone, and that will mean those who choose to remain free members will have to accept whatever limitations that come with that.
Having said that - your suggestions are good and I'm sure SS has and will continue to consider all good ideas.
