I was hoping to get a bunch of people that live in or near Michigan or Windsor together(or those traveling near Detroit) to have a night of karaoke. If anyone is interested send me a message.

wonkim00 - why yes, i am a bicycle! a juicy one!
Went to Royal Kubo a few times back when it was in Oak Park. Other than that, it's kind of a hit-or-miss thing in various bars and bowling alleys. I don't get to do it very often cause I can't find people to go with!
i live by port huron and i have a friend who runs karokee we can evan do soething like this at my house ......have an outside bomb fire and karokee .......we would have to come up with 150 dollars to pay for this !!!!! let me know !!!!!
I'm north of Detroit by about an hour and a half. Sounds like fun to me, let me know. Hope this snowballs into a fun event with lots of people!!!!! Frankie
Well, these days, I'm exclusive to private parties. So, if you'd like to do it that way, a private party that is, I am available for hosting! But I should warn you that I am not cheap! LOL
Awesome! A crowd of extremely nice people, cheap drinks and very, very, very, very rarely, does a fight breakout. As for the music, it doesn't matter, you could be the worst singer in the house, or the best singer in the house. As long as you're having fun, that's what really matters. They have karaoke every Friday and Saturday. And they don't even cancel or delay the show for ANY sporting event!
if i was not so far away I would be there and bring my equipment and there would be no charge.. that is the way we do ours here at the one we are doing in Portage i am bring some and so is Janey and Kirk we only charge so we can pay for the hall

Like Mandi (kateyes27) just said, the place we're going to this Saturday, Sept 1, is Royal Kubo in Clawson, Michigan. We're meeting there about 8:30pm. Karaoke runs from 9pm to 1am. Come join us if you can.
If you can't, well, I say we start planning our big Michigan shindig now. Maybe late September or early October? How would that be for everyone?
Trina's (ttrina1968) offered to host and hook us up with a KJ for $150. She's out in Port Huron on the eastern edge of the state. Or someone else could host and we could hire G-Rock. Or we could meet up at someplace like The Stray Cat or Royal Kubo. A private party sounds kind of cool though.
What does everyone think? And sound off as to what city you live in so we can try to figure out what location would be as central as possible.

Hey all, Royal Kubo was freaking weird. But Mandi is awesome, so it all worked out. We met up about 9pm which is when they're supposed to break out the karaoke. They didn't get started til 10:30. Song selection is not great. I'd estimate they had maybe 1000-1500 songs. Mandi and I were like, "let's wait and see how some people are and the crowd is before we go up." Nope. No one wanted to sing. Finally, we were sick of waiting, turned in our slips and were the first ones up. I did "Jack & Diane", Mandi did "Hit Me With Your Best Shot". We rocked the house of course. :) The KJ spins a regular tune in between each karaoke number, so it slows things waaaaay down. We got back up for our 2nd songs a while later (Mandi with "In Your Room", me with "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday"), then waited forever for our 3rd and final song, a duet ("Always" by Atlantic Starr). The crowd was pretty supportive, but it definitely seemed like they were looking for more upbeat, crowd-pleaser type tunes, like Friends in Low Places and Sweet Home Alabama and Jessie's Girl, all of which people did at some point. We were seriously underwhelmed by the place. They are supposed to be THE place to go for karaoke, that's what the Freep and Metro Times say anyway. I think not.
