SING

SING
Nature and wisdom never are at strife.
Plutarch

The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence, the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice, the fifth teaching others.
Solomon Ibn Gabriol

It was a high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, "Always do what you are afraid to do."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
Arthur C. Clarke

For hope is but the dream

Matthew Prior

THIS IS WHERE WE REMIND YOU OF SOMETHING IMPORTANT:
You have shown us WOW! You are here because you earned this and worked for it. You are amazing and special to us. Each of you have talent and have grown so much throughout this competition. As our friends and contestants we truly care about you and we wish you the best of luck in this round. We thank each of you for caring enough about this competition, the friendships and music, to give it everything you have. May we see you shine your way into finals.

Instructions:
You have inspired Marianne and I the entire time this competition has gone on. We would now like to be your inspiration. Pick one song that Marianne inspires from you and one song Jake inspires from you. Totaling 2 songs. Post both songs together when completed.

If you still have trouble please contact either judge.

We ask for one IMPORTANT thing from each of you: EACH OF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR POSTING YOUR SONGS IN A SINGLE POST

“Your Song(s) Title Goes Here” By “Artist Name Goes Here”
Link to your song goes here

Please note you will be DQ‘d if you DO NOT post as asked. It is too hard for us to manage so many entries without information about your entry

The deadline for this round is Sat 23rd 9 PM SS time.

** No Pre-records. Must be a fresh recording dated after this post. If not it is automatic DQ. DO NOT RE-RECORD. I will be listening closely.

** Only SS songs allowable. Key variation ONLY allowable within the SS Recorder capability, no external manipulation will be allowed.

** No Acapella

** No duplicates of songs. If it has been done, do another.

**You must post the correct link to your song as required by the round.

** No REQUIRED song(s) entry is AUTOMATIC DQ

** If you need a small extension, then you notify us BEFORE deadline, not after.

** NO EXCEPTION to these rules will be made.

From this point on I am asking each of you personally right now to please take the time to read ALL the instructions. Ask for clarification when confused. When you PM a question to one judge, cc it to the other. Take the time to read the thread for RULE CHANGES/CLARIFICATION which will now be marked by a flashing icon.

Expect to be DQ’d without question or explanation in the future if you fail to meet a rule set forth and have not asked a judge to be more specific (if possible).

Judges will be scoring this round based on SPECIFIC Criteria:
1. Does the song match the required random selection.
2. Difficulty of song
3. Timbre/Tonality
{In music, timbre (pronounced /?tam-b?r'/) is tone quality. The richness of a sound or note. The range between tonal and noise-like character.}
4. Affect/Effect/Emotion

Okay that was a cleverly assembled scrabble configuration and then it dawned on me that posting it will shove all the letters to the left and ruin the cute answer and then I decided it's late and I just don't care if they get shoved.

I love Styx! And okay, though I do generally listen to songs all the way through? I didn't get far in that one tonight. Too much potential to get weepy. And then the keyboard gets all wet and my nose gets stuffy and it's just something I'm gonna put off until tomorrow or so.

Jim, I hope you'll still give us a bump now and then?

G'morning everyone!

My my! Such goings on! Jake, honey, c'mere. Here's a sticker for your hand and some graham crackers and chocolate for a snack. I've just brewed some Sumatra because I know strong'ns like you aren't afraid of a silly urban myth that coffee stunts growth. So drink up.

Yes, yes we have beautiful, affectionate girls and spirited, adventurous boys. Surrounded by wonderful people. It's too bad about you and Jimmy and Gerry, though. Hmmm. I think what you boys need is some time to work on your male bonding. A little drum circling, a little wilderness hike. Perhaps some seclusion in the Happy House!

Wait, no, oops, that's the wrong happy house. Ah, here it is! Here we go boys, the Happy House!

Boys? Boys?! Oh, boooooooys!

Deb, they mean ( and someone correct me if I'm wrong) don't play from a previous recording and record it in a new window so that it has a new date. That would effectively re-record a song. So, it does not mean you cannot sing a song from your library. Just that you can not literally copy it from a previous recording.

All's fine, Debbie, yep.

Great answer, Jimmy, thanks for clarifying. Yes, that's a rerecording. A simple matter of duplication that could be used to cheat the rules of a contest. There are benign uses, too. One could put an old song through a mixer or sound recorder to augment it. Adding echo for instance.

Aw, Nic, puppies are adorable. All babies, really, I don't care what species it is. A baby will draw my attention and produce a smile. And human babies? I'm still wanting to pick 'em up and cuddle them. Pretty much any baby I encounter. LOL I no longer ache to have one myself, but oh you bet I want to make faces and coo and cuddle it.

I've always believed babies were designed to be adorable so they're assured someone will want to take care of it.

Feel free to keep the effects you have been using like echo. Feel free to use the SS gold button to change key, even. Just do so on a fresh recording made within the next forty-eight hours. :)

What I was referring to is taking, say, a recording of a Donna Summer song from last October and mixing it through adding echo because disco should have that sound. Like that. There's so much a person can do to music nowadays what with all the gizmos and gadgets sold for home use.

But that's play. Such music manipulation is fun and interesting, but generally frowned upon in competition.

Yah this round should be fun and interesting. As to the short deadline, well, this is a dynamic group. Talented and skilled. The last of a much larger group that includes yourself who were also talented and skilled!

This is the Magnificent Seven! They can achieve miracles in two days. Besides, it is just two songs sung solo.

Nah, seriously I do take many breaks throughout the day. Spine and right ankle require it. But days without thread business? Eep. You don't want bored hosts. It's not pretty.

I hear some folks use Febreeze for odor-killing. I've never tried it since I tend to shy away from chemicals. Anyone have any success stories to share?

Jake found a good product but I forget the name of it. (What was the name of that stuff?) We have just one boy and egad the clutter and mess and stench. Imagine that multiplied by four! Honestly, Jake, you're my hero, honey.
