Karaoke Boot Camp with Sgt. Sara

So you want to be a karaoke superstar? So you want to be the best out there in Singsnap land? Well, I'm about to take you above and beyond anything you're used to in order to truly achieve karaoke excellence. How, you ask?

It's really quite easy. I'm going to challenge you all throughout the course of this contest to do varying challenges that are sure to pull you out of your comfort zone and have you try new things.

Here's how this is going to work:

There will be eight rounds. During the course of these eight rounds, you will be judged on how well you have taken each challenge. There is a different challenge for every round and for each round, your song will be graded by four variables:

VOCAL: 5 pts maximum
STYLE: 5 pts maximum
ADHERENCE TO CHALLENGE: 5 pts maximum
EFFORT: 5 pts maximum

TOTAL: 20 pts maximum

Here is a little bit more about what I will be looking for in each variable:

VOCAL- How well you sang the song. Did you stay on key? Was your vocal tone pleasing? Did you use proper inflections?

STYLE- How did you perform the song? I'm looking for you to perform the song to the best of your ability and whether or not you truly went above and beyond.

ADHERENCE TO CHALLENGE: This is the easy part. Just do what I ask you to do, and you get 5 pts!

EFFORT: As long as you are adhering to the challenge and have obviously made an effort to do it to the best of your ability, you will receive these 5 pts as well. If you don't adhere to the challenge, however, these points are also lost.

At the end of the contest, those with 104 or more collected points will graduate boot camp. As such, there will be no eliminations at all until the later rounds if you have reached a point where you mathematically cannot graduate from boot camp.

The three recruits with the highest scores at the end of Boot Camp will receive a special prize in the mail from me. :-)

For each round, there is a different 'challenge'. The challenges are as follows:

ROUND ONE: The wheel of chance.
For this round, I will randomly assign you a song. The way that I will do this is by taking each participants pre-record and randomly assigning the song to a participant in the contest. You might get your own song. You might get someone else's song...it's all up to chance.

ROUND TWO: Identity crisis
Based on a few letters from your username, I will select a song for you. For example, your username might be WHEREIAM and I would take the 'HER' from WHEREIAM to assign a song. For that example, I might assign 'HERE WITHOUT YOU' or something of that nature.

ROUND THREE: Flashback
I will listen to songs from each recruit's recordings page and select one that I would like for them to re-record.

ROUND FOUR: Slim pickings
For this round, I will have a list of songs that you may choose from. The list will not be very long.

ROUND FIVE: Team work
I will pair the recruits up randomly and you will record a duet with the partner I select for you.

ROUND SIX: Field training
In this round, you will be taken out of your comfort zone. I will assign you a popular song from a genre you don't record on a regular basis. For example, if you record mainly country, I may assign you a popular R&B / Soul song.

ROUND SEVEN: Vocal PT test
In this round, I will have yet another list of songs that are typically very difficult. You will be allowed to choose from these songs to make your recording.

ROUND EIGHT: The gas chamber
Ah, yes. This round will be difficult and is the final round before you graduate. It will be a combination of all seven previous rounds. You might be asked to duet with another member. You might be asked to sing a difficult song. I might take you out of your comfort zone again. In this round, anything can happen!

The deadline is noon on Friday, Singsnap time, and the first round will begin no later than noon on Saturday.

I will *attempt* to do the drawing for songs prior to leaving for a previous engagement on Friday night, so they may actually be up on Friday. No guarantees on that one, though.

In other words, the first round will begin within 24 hours of the close of auditions.
