GENRE BUSTERS ROUND 8
(Please listen to your fellow contestants in the last round, if you haven't already, and send me your scores like we've been doing all along.)
We've got a special round coming up here. We are COMBINING two Genres and you will be singing from BOTH of them. So there will be TWO songs you need to get in this time around.
ONE:
Pick and sing a song from the R&B/Soul category. Any song you like. No Pre-Records please.
TWO:
Pick and sing a song from the International/Ethnic category. Any song you like. No Pre-records please.
ONCE BOTH SONGS ARE RECORDED, you can post them BOTH at the same time here in the thread.
Listen to your fellow contestants and send in your scores to me at the end of the round.
BONUS POINTS THIS ROUND.....
First Challenge:
Name THREE artists who made the top 40 charts in BOTH the R&B category AND the Adult Top 40 (Adult Contemporary) or Rock category.

Guard Dog
There once was a young couple who lived in a town filled with crime. After three neighbors' houses had been robbed, the couple decided to get a guard dog.
So one day the wife went to the pet store and said, "I need a good guard dog."
And the clerk replied, "Sorry, we're all sold out. All we have left is this little Scottie dog. But he knows karate."
The wife didn't believe him so he said to the dog, "Karate that chair."
The dog went up to the chair and broke it into pieces, then he said to the dog, "Karate that table." The dog went up to the table and broke it in half.
So the wife bought the dog and took it home to her husband who was expecting a big guard dog. But then she told her husband that it knew karate, and he said "Karate my ass!"

marianne is feeling really down, autum blues, i quess.....................Sorry, I have to drop out of this contest....for some unknown reason, I can`listen any recordings. Occationally it works but most of the times not. Really, really annoying!!! Recording works, most of the times, but I can`t listen even my own recordings....

OKAY - here's my official absentee explanation for the record...
.
I have not been able to be online alot lately because my show was cancelled and I have been trying to find other work. I'm an actress for a living and it's sucks when you expect to be performing and suddenly you're out of work. (I had retired for a long time actually and had been directing and stuff, but now i'm back onstage again...long story) Sooooooooooo I've been working with a friend of mine who knows lots of Italian restaurant owners and we're trying to get some singing gigs going while i'm looking for more work. So that means not only actually MEMORIZING the entire Sinatra and Dean Martin catalog, but also getting the music (luckily my friend owns a karaoke business) downloading the backgrounds onto ipod, pulling together (beg borrowing stealing) amps/speakers/PA,
wireless Mics...etc etc etc....argh!!!!!!!!!!! it's way more work that I had anticipated. Not to mention designing businesscards, promotions, etc. I'd way rather just go in, perform on stage, collect my check and go home... LOL!!! Plus the video store down the road is hiring...i may go check them out!

BUT even tho im not on here with you guys alot, im not giving up on this contest. we still have some more genres to do and i'll be damned if im gonna quit before its over. it's like pulling teeth when a contest gets too long, but the winner just may end up being the one person who outlasts the rest!!
.
So if I haven't been on here lately, that's why. Plus i'm coming down with something (and I'm supposed to be singing a few songs tomorrow night at intermission for another group!) My husband is already sick with a throat thing, and i'm getting it now. You know, the razorblade feeling? Gargle with salt water all day tomorrow i guess!

BUT you guys are really really awesome and such diehard troopers...i want you to have some fun even though I'm not as attentive as I should be right now. I'll be back, please keep us going and don't give up!

Sorry to hear about everything your going through Missjane.. i know how it is i tried for so long to find a job tons of resumes out and it's like people advertise for help but you never hear from them.. i finally found a job in my field.. so hang on there my friend you will find something, God does everything for a reason whether one thinks that or not...you are a very gifted woman and i know in my heart things will come into shape for you...xx

Believe it or not, I've got strep throat right now. i was supposed to sing for an intermission thing tonight but I'm contagious so i can't go anywhere for 24 hours!!! :-(
Oh i guess i didnt update you guys on that. the Doc called us today and said to go on antibiotics. Augmentin i guess its called? So it's strep...yuk.

I can sometimes listen and often it doesnt work at all (there can be one day when I can listen no problem and the next day not at all)...no idea why.
In contests where I am not voting its not so bad ( still, very annoying), but if I am suppose to vote and can`t listen to the songs or somebodys song, it`s not so nice..I would have to more or less quess how they sound...
It`s been like this about 2 weeks now,,so frustrating!!
I would like to continue, but I dont think its fair me giving points when I can`t hear how people sound like....

I found this one and needed a bump anyways
I had my appendix removed. There was nothing wrong with it, I just did it as a warning to the other organs in my body to shape up or they're out of there

well, i'm fixing to list out everyones entries...but we're losing it slowly but surely here...
it's ok. We're winding down anyway. I'm thinking about having one more "free for all" round to encompass the rest of the genres...a BIGGIE which will last two weeks...and then adding up all the scores and posting our winners.
