I haven't seen a lot of F1 talk here...but with this many membes on site there must be a fair few fellow fans! So what do these fellow fans think of how the 2008 Season is shaping up?

(no need for non F1 fans to comment!!! lol)

Well it is certainly is wide open right now, some spectacular driving and collisions today, Ferrari 1 and 3 and bmw 2, the Mclarens were out of luck today for sure, and the Ferrari's are certainly on the ball right now.

I am just being brief.

Honda are getting closer too...it'd be great to see Jenson challenging for regular points! A 3 week gap now till the Spanish GP...thankfully we have DTM, F3 Euroseries, BTCC et al to keep us entertained in the meantime!!! lol

STUNNING qualifying session today...I don't think I can recall ever seeing such a tightly bunched group...in Q3 I believe 3rd to 10th were split by .2 seconds!!!!! Amazing stuff...should be a great race tomorrow :)

Typical Spanish GP...intriguing & close fought without having much overtaking :S Glad to see Kovalainen's ok though...that was a nasty looking crash he had!

& well done Honda & Jenson Button!

I thought that the old red ones would have had this in the bag easily.....
but its heartning to see that Lewis kept with them (almost)...

They got to change the pit rules when the safety car is out!!... poor Heidfield.

I agree...it's ridiculous that a driver has to choose between running out of fuel or getting a harsh penalty! I understand why they do it...it'd be dangerous if everyone charged into the pits straight away every time the safety car came out...in Indycar racing if you're deperate for fuel you can come in for a splash & go back out...you lose time but not as much as a drive through under green flag conditions!

Now...will Massa win in Turkey (he does go rather well there...but then so does Lewis!!!)??? Remember Davidson's lap last year? Can HE do something unexpected in the Super Aguri...assuming they race there? & can Renault, Red Bull, Toyota & Honda keep the pressure up as all 4 have done well so far...in fact only really Toro Rosso, Force India, Williams & Mclaren aren't doing QUITE as well as expected...& even then not by very much in all cases...other than that everyone is showing very well :)))

Reply by milesofborgGOLD on May 7, 2008 at 1:29 PM

Well further to my ^^^ post, clearly Davidson won't be doing anything in Turkey since sadly Super Aguri have folded & won't be competing anymore :((( So F1 is now back down to 10 teams, although anyone wishing to buy the team as a way of obtaining a reasonably cheap entry to F1 next year may well do so. The saddest part is that a rescue package was in negotiation to save the team...had they had even a few more days then they may have survived, but such are the draconian measures of the FIA that a team can't even claim Force Majeure now, which Aguri could have otherwise done & maybe got back on track in Monaco :(

a sad day for F1 ....RIP Super Aguri!!

onto to Qualifying....
Massa has pulled it out of the bag again, on pole.
Kovalainen in P2 after a stunning lap, especially given the massive acident he had in Spain...
Hami in P3

welldone to Webber, in P6. Its great to see the redbull team performing!

but my money is on Raikkonen, im away to get me some good odds at the bookies....sure as sure can be Massa is running light!!!

He's on a steamroller there for sure...but had Lewis got pole it may have been a different story...what a great tactical race by our boy...& a generally good race with all the action taking place at the front or the back for a change!!!! lol Always an entertaining race in Turkey :)))) Next...Monaco!!!! OooooooH!

Yes, excellent race this one, and with plenty of action going on from start to finish, fabulous tactics by Hamilton to clinch 2nd place and poor Kovalainen picking up that puncture so early on, could of really mixed it up at the front otherwise.

Nobody's mentioned Monaco yet!!!! What a thriller...action, excitement, incidents, some amazing driving. Lewis turning a slight error into a majestic victory, the Ferrari drivers throwing their cars off the road at every available opportunity, poor Adrian Sutil losing a crucial 4th place through no fault of his own...just a magnificent race! More of the same in Canada please!

Indeed...another terrific race & a great debut win for BMW & Kubica! Not the best result for Lewis, but not the worst either with Kimi not finishing (I bet Sutil had a chuckle too!!! lol) & Massa only 5th! Great to see DC back up on the podium...his 62nd!!!! France next & not always the best race but with the lack of traction control now we are seeing more exciting races I feel, so fingers crossed!! lol

What fab action at the Canadian F1 GP, and what a silly and novice like mistake from Lewis! still it certainly has changed up the constructors and the driver championship a bit.

Reply by milesofborgGOLD on June 15, 2008 at 9:43 AM

I can quite understand how the mistake was made...racing drivers tend to react more to what the drivers in front of them are doing rather than things going on at the side of the track...Lewis had just been passed by Kubica & Raikkonen in the pit stop, & those 2 looked to be racing each other to be first out of the pits....Lewis would have been just preparing to floor the throttle at the very time when he had to stamp on the brakes & with such a short stopping distance it was impossible for him to avoid the Ferrari, although he had a damn good go...as you saw, Rosberg fell foul to the same problem & it was only because there was a bigger gap behind them that noone else got involved...clearly the teams felt that the field would have all gone past by the time their cars left the pits & so didn't tell the drivers to watch out for the red light...& it went green a few seconds after the incident, so the timing was very unfortunate for Lewis & Kimi....I bet Adrian Sutil had a chuckle to himself after he saw what happened though...although the circumstances were very different, it WAS a form of come-uppance for Raikkonen for Monaco!!! lol

An oustanding drive by lewis Hamilton....and an action packed GP.
I was convinced that he had made the wrong choice putting the inters back on, I waited on edge for him to stack it while Barrichello was catching him at an alarming rate on the extreme tyres (and he just might have if he hadnt needed to pit again when the refulling rig packed up on his scheduled stop).

With the top 3 drivers joint on 48 points.....its all to play for!!

Reply by milesofborgGOLD on July 7, 2008 at 9:00 PM

Barrichello was flying, but Jenson was 5 seconds a lap quicker on the extreme wets!!!! I was watching the live timing online & he was lapping at 1.37 when the track was at its worst...when others were in the 1.50s & Rubens was doing 1.42s!!!! Sadly he hit standing water & aquaplaned off otherwise he DIDN'T have to stop again & a memorable British 1-2 was very much on the cards!!!!

I agree though...brilliant race & a terrific result for the championship :)

That would have paid out well!!!! I believe his race odds were something like 150/1, so a podium finish would pay about 30/1 (if I'm right)...& a £10 bet there is a healthy pay out....I bet you wished you put it on Rubens now!!! lol

Well it is a real Shame that Silverstone has lost it's F1 status, and I have not looked to see if England is featured still in the line up?

Brilliant race, but what a shame so many just slid right off the track due to the wet weather? still as always, it serves to show just what class some drivers really have, especially when the grip levels are so low, I was gutted when Mr Button went off, I also thought he really had a chance of the number two slot also!

Silverstone still holds the race next year & despite Donnington getting the deal to host the race a LOT of work needs to be done on the track before then....so don't be TOO surprised if it still hosts the 2010 race!!!

& from what I've heard, whether this is a valid rumour or merely scaremongering, the upgrades to the track will be financed by a huge increase in ticket prices :S

It ain't over yet...I see this as yet another example of it being one law for one team & another for the other!!! Last time Massa escaped with no penalty from a situation which was clearly dangerous...this time Mclaren are penalised for a manoevure where Lewis was ahead or at the very least level with Raikkonen, then gets effectively forced onto the chicane, which he naturally goes through ahead of Kimi...Mclaren have evidence that he backed off (well we all SAW that!!!) & let the Ferrari past again, & that he was travelling 6mph slower than Raikkonen when they crossed the line, with Kimi having started accelerating earlier...so how does that equate to him having gained an advantage????

On top of that, the penalty applied was a drive through penalty, which was calculated at 25 seconds...yet this was about the time for a standard pit stop...so surely a maximum of 20 seconds would have been more accurate for a drive through??? (Conveniently Lewis finished 23 seconds ahead of Heidfeld!!!)

Thankfully Mclaren have appealed & their evidence is strong on this one...we can only hope that justice is done & that Mclaren get the win back soon

Definitely nothing wrong with how Lewis handled things, he won that race fair and square, he definitely allowed kimi back through to take the lead, and then pursued the race leader, and it was some superb thrills at the front there too, bad luck to kimi spinning off into the wall, but that is what can happen in F1, I am beginning to think that FIA is an acronym meaning F***ing Insane Amateurs, or similar lol.

Im mad....it was clearly obvious that lewis was the faster man in the conditions. He would have gone past kimi anyway....how come in valencia massa and ferrari where convicted of an unsafe release!!! found guilty of performing a potentially dangerous move in the pit lane but only given a fine? usually the penalty is a drive through, which would have resulted in Massa losing some of his points..

The FIA are idiots..... biased idiots who are destroying the future of F1.
