This challenge is open to all. It runs until Tuesday Nov.13 at 6PM EST. Its purpose is to give people a forum to have their songs heard. There is no judging involved. Everyone who participates is a winner.
PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES AND THE THEME DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING
1. Post ONE OR TWO songs that fit the theme (one is preferred but two are ok). If you have to, you may post a third and final one on the second day of the challenge. You may post a new song or one that was already recorded. You do not have to post a song to participate.
**2. For EACH song you post, listen to at least THREE other people’s songs during EACH day of the challenge and leave feedback. That means, if you post 2 songs you should listen to 6 others each day (12 total). Listen to as many as you wish but make sure you listen to at least three each day per song you post and leave feedback.
Listening is the most important part of this challenge. Supporting and experiencing others is what it’s about.
3. We prefer that you listen to the whole song rather than listening to 10 seconds so there's no need to try to listen to everyone. Try not to listen to the same people every day. Give new people a chance as well. The quality here is so good, you may find yourself doing more listening than you expected.
4. Although you may choose to post a tiny graphic with your comments, we ask that you do not post large glittery graphics as feedback.
5. Come back to the current challenge thread and write about your experiences. Mention songs you heard or anything else that strikes you, suggestions, etc., or not. Completely up to you. And please go back each day and listen to others. That's the most important part of this.
6. You don't need to post a song to listen but you need to listen if you post a song. It's best to post earlier in the challenge. But you can post up until the end. Just be aware that the closing hours of the challenge are better suited to listening than trying to squeeze in a last minute post.
New challenge themes are announced by 6pm EST Saturday and Tuesday. Thursday – Saturday nights we are LIVE in our chat room. On Thursday and Saturday we begin at 7PM EST and on Friday we start at 6PM EST. But you are welcome in there at any time. To access the room, learn how to use it and read the room guidelines, follow the link below.

After I posted this challenge, I went through my list of songs and realized that I don't record many one hit wonders. But I do have a pair for you. These are the only two one hit wonders I have recorded, other than "I Like To Move It" which was in a challenge not too long ago.
The first one is actually my most recent recording. It was Michael Franks' only Top 100 appearance and peaked at #43 in 1976.
The second is from Wall of Voodoo's biggest selling album, Call Of The Wild. It was their only Top 100 appearance, peaking at #59 in 1983 but it was an enormous hit on the newly formed MTV.

It used to be that you'd ALWAYS hear Zager & Evans ("In the Year 2525") mentioned as one of the top one-hit wonders ever. I don't like that song. So instead, here's
Info from Wikipedia: (Keith is) best remembered for his hit "98.6", the recording was issued on the Mercury Records, and reached number 24 in the UK Singles Chart in 1967. It was considerably better received in his homeland. The single reached #7, and remained for 14 weeks in the bestsellers in the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It sold over one million copies worldwide, earning a gold disc.
OK, I just looked him up. He had 2 more Top 40 hits but they only went to 37 and 39, and I don't know them, so I'm still going to include him as a one-hit wonder!!

Folks, please be aware when you research the one hit wonders that it's important that the group was known for the song. For example, one site lists Frijid Pink as a one hit wonder for House of The Rising Sun. Although House was indeed a hit for Frijid Pink (and they're biggest hit), The Animals are the group most closely associated with House of The Rising Sun so that song would not be a great choice.
Check the link from Fofun and Rob and I'm sure you'll find some great One Hit Wonders.
werewoof wrote:So then Bruce "diehard" Willis' one hit he had with the staple singers "Respect yourself" in 1987 doesn't count?
Bruno is gonna be so disappointed...
You raise a good question. I would say that even if the song was a hit by one artist it can still be counted towards another as long as the song is remembered as a hit by that artist. In my example, when most people think of House Of The Rising Sun, they think of The Animals so Frijid Pink is not a good choice.
On the other hand, "Groovy Kind Of Love" is easily identifiable with both The Mindbenders and Phil Collins. "Hooked on a Feeling" is easily identifiable with both BJ Thomas and Blue Swede. So I guess it comes down to your own perception. (BTW, none of these acts are 1 hit wonders as they've had other hits. I was just using the songs as an example of songs that were recognized for multiple artists).
Most American music industry insiders consider a song in the top forty positions of the Billboard Hot 100 to be a hit. Thus, any performer who recorded only one song that reached the Top 40 is, technically, a one-hit wonder. However, the term is more generally applied to musicians best known for only one song, meaning that some artists who fit the above criteria are not considered one-hit wonders, while others who do not are considered such.
The term was first used by the "Guinness Book of Hit Singles" from the 1970s, and originally referred strictly to those artists whose first chart action was: "a number one hit, and then nothing else, ever."
Here are some other criteria that also affect a performer’s status as a one-hit wonder:
* Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, Radiohead, Phish, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, Iggy Pop, Faith No More, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Church, Yes, and System of a Down each had only one Billboard Top 40 hit but are rarely, if ever, considered one-hit wonders. These performers are known for other successes, like album or concert ticket sales, critical acclaim, strong fan followings, or influence on other musicians. * Some artists, including Livin' Joy, never had a top-40 pop hit, but did have a song that received considerable airplay, even long after its day of release. * Many popular British artists like Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Robbie Williams, BBMak, All Saints, Billie Piper, Busted and Take That are considered one-hit wonders in the US, although the listed artists were very popular in Britain. * Prominent members of popular groups who have only one solo hit typically are not seen as one-hit wonders. Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, The Lovin' Spoonful's John Sebastian, The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, and Michael Nesmith of The Monkees each achieved chart success only once as solo artists but are all well-known for their contributions to music through their respective bands. * Conversely, groups led by popular solo artists are usually not called one-hit wonders. Derek & the Dominos' sole hit "Layla" is associated with group leader Eric Clapton, who had considerable success before and after the Dominos.

Great theme! I was all set to post my Greg Kihn Band "Breakup Song" when I discovered they had another hit ("Jeopardy"). Bummer!
So here instead is a pair of one-hitters from a certain era:
Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth
(...but Stephen Stills was in that, and though he hasn't exactly been a red-hot solo artist, he's been part of CSN[Y]..so is BS really a OHW?)
Five-Man Electrical Band - Signs
(I'm on safer ground here, I think...OR AM I???)
I look forward to the other submissions, and to the highly engaging technical discussions of what definitively qualifies as a One-Hit Wonder :-)

I saw Frank Zappa on your list so If you don't mind I'll drag this one out of the archive for ya too.. This is the only Zappa tune Snap has .. I think.. kinda mature lyrics so beware....
Dinah-moe Humm - Frank Zappa
