Here is an overview of how to record on SingSnap. If you have any questions, reply here or by contacting Singsnap at support@singsnap.com.

<strong>Recording with a webcam built in microphone</strong>
Using this method the webcam microphone records both the music and voice.

<em>Step 1</em>
Place yourself about 3 to 4 feet in front of the webcam where you intend to be singing. Sing a few phrases with the same intensity, as you would while singing with music. Now while singing, position the Sing Snap volume control in the Sing Snap Player so that meter is just peaking before the red zone near the top. This will set the recording input level.

<em>Step 2</em>
Place the speakers about the same distance or a little farther from the webcam. Now while a song is playing in the Sing Snap Player adjust the volume of the speakers so that so that meter is just peaking before the red zone near the top like in step one.

<em>Step 3</em>
Make a short test recording to check if the balance between the music and voice is acceptable. If the music is too loud or too low, adjust the volume on the speakers. If the voice is too loud or too low, start at Step 1 and adjust accordingly. Keep in mind that you might have to make a few tests to find the optimum recording settings and position.

<strong>Basic recording with a microphone</strong>
The following outlines two methods of setting up the recording levels for the Sing Snap player. Choose the method where you are having the most problems. Using either of these methods will adjust the individual levels for music and voice.

<em>Method 1 – Music first</em>
Check music level...

Step 1
While a song is playing in the Sing Snap player, adjust the Sing Snap volume control so that the meter is just peaking before the red zone near the top. If you find that the music is either still too loud or soft we can fine tune the music volume in the Sound Card's mixer – go to Step 2.

Step 2
Consult your sound card's manual for help an accessing the mixer to adjust the music level and adjust accordingly. For example, in a PC with Windows and a Sound Blaster Live sound card we can adjust the volume of the music in the Windows Volume Control, adjust the level of the "Wave” audio line then go back to Step 1.

Check voice level...

Now that the music level is set, sing a few phrases with the same intensity, as you would while singing with music. Now while singing, adjust the "Microphone” level in the Windows Volume Control so that the meter in the Sing Snap Player is just peaking before the red zone near the top.

<em>Method 2 – Voice first</em>
Check voice level...

Step 1
While a song is playing in the Sing Snap player, adjust the Sing Snap volume control so that the meter is just peaking in the red zone near the top. If you find that the music is either still too loud or soft we can fine tune the music volume in the Sound Card's mixer, leave the level in the Sing Snap Player to about 50% then go to Step 2.

Step 2
Consult your sound card's manual for help on accessing the mixer to adjust the microphone level and adjust accordingly. For example, in a PC with Windows and a Sound Blaster Live sound card we can adjust the volume of the microphone in the Windows Volume Control. Now while singing, adjust the "Microphone” level in the Windows Volume Control so that the meter in the Sing Snap Player is just peaking before the red zone near the top.

<strong>Macromedia Flash Player Setup/Settings</strong>
To see open the flash player settings window, right click on the lyrics display window or the video display window, a menu will appear, select "Settings”.

<em>Privacy Tab</em>
1) You must select "Allow” if you want to record a song.
2) Put a check in the box if you don't want thus window to open up all the time.

<em>Local Storage Tab</em>
If the audio and/or video stream keeps breaking up, set the value to 1MB or higher.

<em>Microphone Tab</em>
Here you can select which microphone input will be used to record. It can be from a USB camera or the internal sound card in your computer. The Record Volume need not be adjusted here, it should be adjusted in the Sing Snap player. You can put a check in the "Reduce Echo” box if you feel there is echo coming from the speakers.

<em>Camera Tab</em>
Here you can select the primary video camera.

<strong>Recording Tips</strong>
1) Record a little bit to verify if the levels are satisfactory. Be sure to test using the same vocal dynamic range you will use in the song.
2) If your voice sounds muffled or too bassy, back off the mic a little.
3) Try to keep your mouth always pointed towards the microphone unless there is too much explosive sounds from "P's” and "B's”.
4) Mute all lines not being used in the Sound Card's mixer.

<strong>How to access the Windows Volume and Record Control</strong>
To open the Windows Volume control, double click the yellow or gray speaker icon in the tray, near the clock. If you don't see the speaker icon, open the Control Panel and then click on "Sounds and Multimedia”. Here put a checkmark in front of "Show volume control on the taskbar.”

To open the Windows Recording control, open the volume control as above, then select the menu item "Options – > Properties” then select "Recording”.

<strong>Frequently Asked Questions</strong>
<em>I have a Sound Blaster sound card and when I listen to the recordings I don't hear the music.</em>
In the Windows Recording Control be sure that "What U Hear” or "Mixed Output” is selected as the recording line.

Hi Tony, please help me. I am practicing fine..the volume, mic, sound. When I record...the recording level is no where to be seen, consequently when it uploads...the player has not actually recorded anything! It seems to be a problem with the player itself as there is no indication of recording volume...or are my settings wrong. I am using a seperate mic and stereo headphones not speakers. Please help me! thanks

I had a lot of problems on how to get the music and mike at the same level. To correct this I use a Y connector going into the Mike imput and have one mike set at the speakers and the other set for vocals. This seems to correct the problems that I have had in the past. Oh yes I do have a vol. control that comes with my speakers. Let me know how it workes for you.

Hi, I love this site! I am having a few issues though. When the site first started I was really anxious to try it, so I begin to record some songs. They sounded very bad so I bought a new sound card (Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24bit). This card has some adjustments for Karaoke like echo. After I installed it I still had problems with feedback. I then thought it was the old desktop microphone I was using so I purchased an adapter to use a regular microphone. It really helped with wind noise but I still have feedback problems. In the Audio Configurations panel when I have the stereo mix button on I can’t turn the mic up at all or it has immediate feedback. I have tried many different things but I can’t seem to get it working right. Please Help, Thank You

what happens if you dont know a song but want to learn it? The top featured people might not be singing it the way it was written so therefore u are not learning the correct version. How do you fix that? There are no recordings by professional artists to teach the song?

Go to sound prop.click on Audio tab...Go to record playback and click volume...once that menue pops up click options and then proberties....click on the dot next to recording and look for wave in the list below... Make sure there is a check mark in the box next to it.... This will allow it to be veiwed when you go and adjust you sound volume... give that a try.. If it dont work let me know ( PM)...also see it you have box in sound Prop. titled "stereo mix" if so make sure the "select" box is ALWAYS check....... Good luck... Chris
