Safety Dance came out in 1983 from Canadian New Wave band, Men Without Hats. It was later released in the US and made #3 on the US charts in September of that year. It was written as a protest of night clubs disallowing "pogoing", a dance that involved bouncing up and down to a song "like an imbecile." The song writer had actually been tossed out for that very reason before writing the song. It is not about safe sex or is it antinuclear - it is about who defines dancing safely. Kind of refreshing in a way...
