This song is from the movie "Evita". Evita went through life doing what she needed to in order to get where she's at in life. So headstrong and full of determination. Relationships with men were more or less a means to an end. Both parties benefited each other in one way or another. This song comes in when Evita is sick and she knows she's dying. She's frightened. She's not afraid of the pain from her illness and she doesn't fear death itself. She's feeling emotional fear. The fear of not having love. Of not knowing that someone truly and wholeheartedly loves her. That's why, in some ways, she's either demanding or begging that he must love her. When he stays with her and never leaves her side, even though she's of no further use to him politically, it's only then that she realizes that he really must love her - and that he has all along. For me, the emotional fear of love, whether falling in love or trusting that someone does love you, is the biggest of any fear. Even death.
