I haven't sung for almost a week (bad allergies). But I seem to have a temporary reprieve this afternoon, so I thought I'd do this pretty country song for my friends Sandra, Dianne, Beth, Diane, Lana and Carrie (both Carries lol) and any others who enjoy this genre. It's far from perfect, but it's the best I can do today :) Abilene is a 1963 song originally recorded by George Hamilton IV. Written by Bob Gibson and John D. Loudermilk, it reached number one on the country music charts for four weeks, and peaked at number 15 on the pop music charts. Bob Gibson was inspired to write the song after watching the Randolph Scott movie, "Abilene Town." The setting for the movie was Abilene, Kansas, the railhead town at the end of the Chisholm Trail. Gibson said that the song had often been erroneously thought to be about Abilene, Texas, a town named for the Kansas cowtown that had been established 24 years earlier.

There's just one problem with the title of this song. Which Abilene? If I leave my home and get on I-20 west, I drive for about 3 hours to Abilene, TX or I can get on I-35 north and drive for about 8 hours and be in Abilene KS. Does anyone know which Abilene this song is referencing? Is there an Abilene near where you live? Anyway, enjoy
