My story begins back in 2001…I was a small town girl that went to a big city for school. While I was there, I met someone that was 13 years older than me. We started out as friends, but then it quickly turned into more. At first, it was like a fairytale…I was only 19 at the time and wanted to enjoy life as well. I had many friends, yet soon I was being controlled by the man that I was madly in love with because he wanted me all to himself. Not long after that, I lost most of my friends because I wasn’t willing to see what they saw. As the years went on, he continued to be verbally abusive and tried to make my family believe that I wouldn't be able to survive without him. Yet, for some reason, I still loved him VERY much…I would tell myself, we have good moments, it’s not all bad. In 2006, we were engaged to be married. We moved back to the city where we met and this is when he became physically abusive. His physical and verbal abuse continued for months, and I felt like I was dying inside every day. After all the tears, heartache, and him taking everything from me, I decided it was time to stand up and take control of my life again. It was at that moment that I turned to the people that truly loved me, my family. Once I started to love myself again, I was able to create a new life. I have a beautiful daughter and loved ones that bring me joy every single day. My life may not be perfect, but I have an amazing family that has loved me unconditionally. ~That part of my life, brings me so much sadness when I think back to it all~
