Song Name: "Saskatchewan's Days Are Over"
Written, Composed and Performed by Gary ....

HMCS Saskatchewan was a 366 ft destroyer escort built in Esquimalt, BC. It was commissioned on February 16th, 1963 and decommissioned on April 1st, 1994.

I wrote this song in 1994 when the Saskatchewan was removed from service.... When I was in the Navy, I had spent five glorious years serving on her during the late 60's and early 70's... This song was actually played over the ship's PA system on her final sail past... The ship as well as her crew would be sadly missed... At that time I never knew that the ship would become an artificial reef.. She was sank and laid to rest near Nanaimo, B.C., and is enjoyed by many divers today...

Thanks for stopping by... Comments are most welcome....
Have a good evening my singsnap friends.
Hugzzzz

Saskatchewan's Days are Over It's time to say Goodbye
She'll leave behind fond memories of years ago
No more will she sail the seas or drift neath clear blue skies
Saskatchewan's Days are Over It's Goodbye
She's grown so very weary from the storms along her way
And her engines and her systems have all seen better days
Her radios and radars don't perform like they used to
Saskatchewan's Days are Over we'll miss you
No more trips to San Diego or brief stops in Mexico
No island cruises off Hawaii like so many we did years ago
And no more officer training and crusin out to Barkley Sound
Her sailin' days are over now there gone
-guitar instrumental-
The departure of this fine lady will bring tears to many eyes
And we will all remember the good times till we die
Ole 262 may well be laid up the ocean floor
To serve as an artificial reef for divers to explore
Saskatchewan's Days are Over It's time to say Goodbye
She'll leave behind fond memories of years ago
No more will she ride the waves or sail under stormy skies
Saskatchewan's Days are Over It's Goodbye
