I know this song is not what I would consider marketable,but it means a lot to me! I was asked to be on the Grand-Ole-Opry stage in Nashville for my 40th birthday for a national talent competition, and naturally I said"uhh,Yeah!!' Now I'm sure some of you have tried to balance family and music,and sometimes family thinks you love music more than them.That was our case at the time. I wrote this song just for this occasion not knowing if my wife was even gonna go with me for sure.Ended up 9 of us went.lol My intentions at the time were to drive truck until something happened in music.So this song is a vision of being on the road, and getting to the point I have to go to Nashville "for me",,,hoping it wouldn't turn into a choice between music and family, but being able to have both. It turned out,it did kind of come to that. I was asked by the production company if I could come to his office the next day,and I did, and he wanted to know if I wanted to do a European promotion,and was told if all went well I may end up over there for up to 3 months.I said I was flattered,but no! When he asked why,I told them that I have 3 kids at home and if I ever got a call that there was a problem at home,I wouldn't be able to do the show.I'd be on the first plane out,and If I can't give you all of me,I guess it's none of me!I don't regret it either.But I did always wonder"what if?" But 2 nights ago (16 years later) I was asked by an acquaintance of mine to get a demo around by tonight,because he stays at Loretta Lynns house for a week once or twice a year,and is going this week,and this song is on that demo. He also visits with George Jones while there. Then told me he was going down again in August and to have another demo ready. Now, I know it's like the lotto,and winning is slim,but I got 1 of very few tickets and I'm pretty excited!! I love the feeling that anything can happen from here.Even if I didn't do it myself,just one song on the circuit would tickle me to death,and she's getting about 15 songs! So please bare with me while I enjoy this moment.I found out I can't sing it like I used to,lol and I couldn't find the backup c.d.so this is a master tape,so the quality isn't the best.Thank you for allowing me to share my excitement!
