At the end of the 60's I was really in 'no no land'. No real idea of where I was heading and no where near having a relationship which would last. I was still heavily into the boys music and in 1970 out came this masterpiece 'Question' which really did tell about my own situation in that I was looking for somebody to change my life. That is exactly what happened when I came across Kaarina at a New Years Eve party in London 1971 and we have been together ever since and I shout it from the highest building that I have been very lucky to have been sent her as she has certainly turned my life around. This particular song has always been one of my favourites and I like to believe that when we always had music playing at home, it was this song which was playing when our son Robin was conceived. Go to the video link on page 11 for information about this song. Tony

Having had a reasonable time on this planet I have like most of us, experienced times of great sadness but also great happiness, times of extreme frustration but also extreme satisfaction, times of guilt but times of correcting many things and last but by no means least times of love. Sadly the one thing that I have watched from my early 30s' which still bothers me now, is why so many people find it difficult to like or love others simply because of different cultures, religions, color and unfortunately far to many times put violence instead of understanding as the solution. The more we understand what love is and practice it as more than a spoken or written word, the better our lives will become and is exactly where I am in my life now and look for things to get much better before I wander off into space. The song ‘Isn't It a Pity’ is really one of the simplest yet truly great songs about understanding love in all ways if you follow the lyrics closely and is certainly one of peace. For me this is so easy to understand and always makes me think how if I really had paid attention to the simple basic things in life, how much better things could have been for others. Take care Anthony Isn't It a Pity" is a song by George Harrison from his 1970 solo album All Things Must Pass. It was written during the sessions recording The Beatles' White Album, but was rejected for that album. It was released as the B-side of "My Sweet Lord" in the United States on November 23, 1970, and both it and "My Sweet Lord" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It has been covered by numerous artists, including Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Pedro Aznar, Jay Bennett, the Cowboy Junkies, Peter Drake, 18th Dye, Galaxie 500, Nina Simone, Television Personalities, Nicky Thomas, The Three Degrees Elliott Smith, and Bettye Lavette. The powerful, moving lyrics are consistent with the karmic subject matter of much of the All Things Must Pass albumthings could be. This is such a special song that at concerts when thousands of people listened to this together they would find quite often that many ended up holding each other because of the strength of the songs message.

After a few ups and downs in my early days, I finally settled when I ran into a beautiful lady called Kaarina, moved to Finland, married her,had a lovely son and have been together ever since. In certain ways it was very difficult living in a culture alien to my own but having travelled a lot in the late 50’s early 60’s and had my eyes opened by how millions of people suffered in this world, I had told myself not to feel bad because I could not have things I wanted which everybody else seemed to have. Adding that not having my own way all the time, life became much easier as I was able to focus on the brighter things in life which enabled me to deal with bad experiences in a much more positive light. For me there is no one defining moment in my life, as people are like houses and build their lives brick by brick on their many experiences and repair the broken pieces the best way they can as they grow. These are what define who we are at that moment. Looking on the bright side of life and while not forgetting those less fortunate than myself defines who I am, so what better song to choose. Tony "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" is a popular song written by Eric Idle that originally featured in the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian and has gone on to become a common sing-along at public events such as football matches as well as funerals. The song appears twice in the Broadway musical Spamalot, based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail – once in Act II and again during the curtain call,. which included in the cast David Hyde Pierce, better known as Frazier’s brother Niles in the TV series The Spamalot rendition of the song was also performed by the Broadway cast in the 2006 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade The song touched a chord with the British trait of stoicism and the 'stiff upper lip' in the face of disaster, and became immensely popular. When the destroyer HMS Sheffield was struck by an Exocet cruise missile on May 4, 1982 in the Falklands War, her crew sang it while waiting to be rescued from their sinking ship, as did the crew of HMS Coventry. In April 2007, over 4,000 people gathered in Trafalgar Square in London in a successful attempt to create a new official Guinness world record for the largest number of people playing simultaneously in a coconut orchestra (i.e. banging coconut shells together in time to the music). The song used for the record attempt was "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". A video of the event can be seen on YouTube.

George Formby was one of the most popular entertainers of the time from England for both young and old and being able to sing some of his songs gives me an enormous amount of pleasure. This song takes me back to when we went and watched all the George Formby films at ‘Saturday Morning Pictures’ as it was called, which cost sixpence(2½p) to get in, and even though George made his last film in 1946 they showed them all again which gave both young and old the chance to be entertained by this very special man from Lancashire. I must have been 6 or 7 years old when I first saw George but certainly heard him on the wireless before then. Living in London, it was all hustle and bustle to get things back to normal after the war and I look back on those times with some fond memories. We did not have much but that was no problem as everybody seemed to help everybody, so selecting this song is very special for me and I always enjoy singing it. Tony PS At that time I was a little tubby lad and the next door neighbour always called me Winston(Churchill) which I did not understand at the time but which makes me smile when I remember. George Formby, OBE (26 May 1904 – 6 March 1961), born George Hoy Booth, was a British comedy actor, singer-songwriter and comedian. He sang light, comical songs, accompanying himself on the banjo or ukulele. He was a major star of stage and screen in the 1930s and 1940s and voted the most popular during the war years, with even the Russian army enjoying his songs of which there were over 200 hundred. ‘Leaning on the Lampost’ was his most well known song which came from his 1937 film, ‘Feather Your Nest’.

I came across this story two years ago which I had never heard before, tucked away in the corner of the SS song lists. Intrigued by the name I opened it up and read the words which after thinking about a little, realised that the story told was not just for people who believe in God but for everybody who believes in the goodness of the human spirit. The theme of the story are the acts of kindness by an ordinary man towards others in distress without any thoughts of reward for himself but which are brought to his attention by his very special visitor. Everyday millions upon millions of such acts happen but most pass unnoticed and this is for those who by their kindness keep our hopes alive for a better world and help lift those who are down as I think does this. Thank you Tony The original was written as a poem by American Helen Steiner Rice, who devoted her life to inspiring and helping others.

Well this is one of those songs which even for those not having such a good time of things at the moment can bring a smile to our faces so I hope you enjoy even if for only five minutes. Tony When Noddy he spoke about the song's creation by Slade he said that they decided to write a Christmas song which would reflect a British family Christmas. Economically, the country was up the creek. The miners had been on strike along with the grave-diggers, the bakers and almost everybody else. Thinking people wanted something to cheer them up – and so did he. That's why I came up with the line 'Look To The Future Now It's Only Just Begun'. Once I got the line 'Does Your Granny Always Tell You That The Old Ones Are The Best', I knew I'd got a right cracker on my hands. Merry Christmas Everybody" is a 1973 song by the English rock band Slade and was the band's sixth number-one single in the UK. It earned the UK Christmas Number One slot in December 1973 and by mid-January it was still at number one; it stayed in the UK Singles Chart well into February 1974.In a 2007 poll, "Merry Christmas Everybody" was voted the UK's most popular Christmas song.

Well I could not sing in a musical event without this little gem. The song I have a history with and since I have not warbled it for some time, I think it is a good time offer it up once again. Tony Get Me to the Church on Time" is a song composed by Frederick Loewe, with lyrics written by Alan Jay Lerner for the 1956 musical My Fair Lady, where it was introduced by Stanley Holloway. It is sung by the cockney character Alfred P. Doolittle, a dustman , the father of the shows main character Eliza Doolittle. He has received a surprise bequest of four thousand pounds a year from an American millionaire, raising him to middle-class respectability. Consequently he feels he must marry Eliza's "stepmother", the woman he has been "living in sin" with for many years. Doolittle and his friends have one last spree before the wedding and the song is a plea to his friends not to let his drunken merriment forget his good intentions and make sure he gets to his wedding.
