*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** I've had a couple of requests for some vocal duets, and since I'm always eager to oblige (note the country slang), I figured I'd take this opportunity to whip one out! (NO, not THAT!) This is a request from KITTYHARRELL, who is a very special lady. She gave me VERY specific as to how she wanted this done, even asking that I talk a little dirty during the song. Now, I'm really a very shy and reticent boy, but I did my best for ya, KITTYKITTY!!!! Enjoy!

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** There's absolutely nothing that I don't love about this tune. The cello just drives me up a wall....a wonderful arrangement. This was requested by PeggyJoy, and it's a perfect example of why I take requests: I would never have had the chance to play on this beautiful (Chartbuster) track otherwise. Thank you, Peggy! Enjoy!

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** I did this one a few months back, and while the key was good for many, there was also a large group that wanted to sing it, but needed the HIGH key. G2NOTES (Gloria) sent me a request for the song in this key, but I just never got to it before. So with apologies to Gloria, I'm finally playing it! Enjoy!

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** CHAPLAINJUDYLYNN always finds the neatest tunes. I'd forgotten about this one, and that's a shame. This is one of my favorites by the great Etta James. This is what the whole 'Requests' thingy is all about! Enjoy!

Seven Years

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** RODANDSTEPH1117 (Stephi) requested some Norah Jones songs that I've already done, so I went searching to see if there were any Norah tunes I thought we would find interesting. This is from her 'Come Away With Me' album, and because of the poignancy of the lyric, and the fact that the guitar solo sounds very similar to a Sitar, I always thought that maybe this tune was intended as a message to her father Ravi Shankar, by whom Norah was essentially ignored. In any case, it's a nice tune, and worth learning. (I hope!!)

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** One of the real pleasures that I get from SingSnap (No, not you, JamminJoe!) is having the opportunity to watch (listen?) as singers develop in confidence, style and most importantly, emotion. There are several here that have just made amazing strides and I enjoy watching them mature. I love talent...absolutely love it. But as I've said before, talent is just the beginning, not the answer. It's the work and dedication that makes the difference. Some time back, I heard LISE-ANGELA sing and was struck with the beauty of her voice. As time went by, she progressed rapidly. She now has her own band and her own CD, which I've heard several times! She is excellent, and you should check her out. Oh...did I mention that this song was requested by LISE-ANGELA??

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** I like this tune and was glad to be reminded of a request for it from Jolena (Suzy)! Diana Krall is amazing, and just about everything she does is excellent and classy! (Hey...just like Jolena!!) I hope you all like it!

Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** This was requested by WYNNEM (Michelle) and although I think she's really related to PeggyJoy in some manner, we won't hold that against her. (Well, maybe JamminJoe will!) It's a beautiful tune that originally had a wonderful harmonica accompaniment by Stevie Wonder. Somehow Stevie's missing from this track, so I grabbed a few of the fat spots. (In the music....not where you're thinking!!) Enjoy!

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** I haven't had a chance to listen to last weeks 'NEW' song selection, but this is one of several very nice tunes from the prior week (5/10). I've done a lot of complaining about the recent offerings from Singsnap, so, to be fair, I commend them for the selection from 5/10. There are several there that I have put on my list! This was requested (suggested?) by PeggyJoy, and although my favorite version of this was done by Phyllis Hyman, this is an excellent version as well. (The SBI track that's here of the Phyllis Hyman version is brutally bad!!) Tough tune, but a wonderful melody.....enjoy!!

*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS*****DUETS***** Hey! Got time for a little story?? I mentioned before that I've been searching around here for material here because the NEW stuff HAD been so sucky (yes, I know there's some real gems in last weeks offerings!). Anyway, I found this song and it reminded me of 'little' story you might enjoy, so here goes... When I was but a wee lad, I was drafted into the military. For my last year of service, I was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. I arrived there in a VERY hot July, and, of course, I was dead broke. After a couple of weeks of unsuccessfully trying to find a part-time job, I had just about decided to go sell blood to get money for my car payment. As I was walking to my car, one of the guys from my unit (a pretty decent drummer) pulled up and told me that he had got a call from a local band that was looking for a horn player. If I was interested, I had to show up for a quick audition! So, I grabbed my horn and headed out. Now, at that time, I was strictly a jazz player. I knew nothing about rock, and even less about country. I met the 'leader' who seemed like a nice guy, I played some, and he hired me. He turned out to be a GREAT singer, fair guitarist, and a heckuva fun guy! I worked with him for the rest of my time in the service whenever he was in town. He would kind of drift in and out of town and always had something going on in Memphis. (I actually went there and recorded with him quite a few times!) He always was dropping names, but, truthfully, as good as he was, I never really believed much of what he said. The day I left the service, I played with him that night, then headed back to Chicago. I had rented a truck for my 'stuff', so I left my car and my dog at his place and told him I would be back in two weeks for both! When I got back, my car was there, but my dog was gone. He had given my dog to his mother, and she wanted to keep it. What could I say? I still miss that damn dog! About 10 years ago, I got a call from the guitar player that we worked with back then. He was working in a house band at Dollywood, He asked if I ever saw our old friend. I expressed my surprise that he was still alive. I was shocked to hear that not only was he alive, but he was doing quite well! VERY well, in fact. I never knew that Del whose full name was Delbert McClinton had turned out to be quite a star! Oh, and there's LOTS MORE! I'll tell the rest of the story a bit later, but first, I hope you enjoy this tune! (Oh, yes...the irony that this GREAT track is an SBI track has not been lost on me!!)
