I'm a transplanted Canadian living in beautiful New Zealand.
Singing has always been a passion for me. Some of my earliest memories as a child was sitting on the living room floor belting out Buddy Holly songs that my dad was strumming out on the guitar. In time my musical tastes evolved to folk, country, and rock. This is where I sat through most of high school, but once I was out of that peer pressure I began to discover musical genius in other genres as well. Yes I even respect Rap music as a genre, though I don't choose to listen to it often.
The one thing I love about singing is how it shuts out the world for a few minutes. Its all about me and the music. The stresses of the day, week, month, or year seem to disappear for a while, and when the music is over, those same stresses don't seem to be so big anymore.
My vocal music teacher in high school (almost failed that class!) once said "Anyone can sing. If you've got a voice, you can sing with that voice. It doesn't matter what other people think about that voice, all that matters is whether you are enjoying yourself". Well here's to you Mrs Janzen! I am enjoying myself and I don't care what other people think!
Have an inspired day, and sing loud and lots. But most of all, do it for you.
