JESUS is the lord and love of my life besides my precious son. Singing is something i have always love to do even though i sometimes end up putting my own spin on a song and melody. I have always love certain types of music and feel blessed that i am able to sing the music i love which is R&B/SOUL, which is definitely not a "safe" or easy genre to sing. Vocally, it can be very challenging. I remember hearing my mother sing around the house when i was a young girl and she had such a "unique" voice, very melodic and tender and i think that is when i learned to be appreciative of singing. Some of my mom's favorites have become my favorites! On this page is a realm of soulful music from ballads to funk to disco to classy soul to pop soul and i have also recorded some other genres. I dont have a great sound system and my mic is atrocious at times so I apologize for the sound issues in some of my recordings, yet i hope you can still hear my vocal instrument. One day i hope to get real good recording equipment! On this site, i have heard some tremendous high quality recordings from others with great and clear sound systems. While it might not help vocal ability, it definitely makes a recording sound better. I have always loved a beautiful melody, that always catches my ear but so does a great vocalist who can hit the notes, high and low and bend them and do things with their voice and "saaaaaang that song" and i have definitely heard a few stand out singers on SS, those with "unique" voices and "expressive" vocals or some who can just outright sing and can handle all kinds of songs, not just "safe" songs. I guess i dont care too much for "monotone" singing unless its a really pretty melody/lyric and a great voice to go along with it. Ive always loved a vocalist who isnt a "one trick pony", one that is versatile and can sing all types of music. IMO, Billie "lady day" Holiday is the greatest female vocalist who ever lived and that is what made her so great...you could feel what she was singing about and she used her voice like an instrument, and i would have to say Karen Clark-Sheard of the Clark Sisters is the best female vocalist that is living on this planet right now. Take a listen to her with and without her sisters and see what she can do with her voice. Karen is truly amazing! Besides Lady Day, Phyllis Hyman had an unbelievable one of a kind voice, even though she is very underrated outside of R&B music. CLASSIC SOUL/R&B music especially from the late 60's, 70's and 80's is the epitome of great music to me...great singers who were born with raw, natural talent (most of those great singers never had any vocal lessons or coaching and they sure didnt use auto-tone, lol ), power vocals, lush melodies (philly soul), soulful ballads (stax and motown), groovin funky beats (ohio funk and soul), great songwriters and producers (motown, philly international, stax)..... awww SWEET SOUL MUSIC! well here we go...
