This is so great to watch. I let my Daughter watch until the dead animals showed up. I didn't think she should see that.

My Husband and I were trying to figure out each animal they brought back to the nest. I said I wonder what the expiration date is on how long the dead animals are good for them to feed the chicks. lol. I keep missing them actually come back from their hunt.

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

lol opti - like the expiration date on milk

i'm no expert, but i can say that the date on that crow has passed for sure - it had flies crawling on it yesterday

i never had any children, so i dunno from raising them, but i don't see anything bad in letting them see how the world works

p.s. there is an owl hooting somewhere in the background now

Reply by 1shynquiet1

PBS has a documentary on about them tonight I read. Also looks like there might be a downtime shortly...they are working on the cams.

Edited reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

135,000 viewers watchin em right now :-)

i hope that means good things for us sharing our planet with the 'lesser animals'

p.s. - hear that owl howling in the background?

what lambs? i meant to post that earlier but got sidetracked

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

A farm in the UK put a cam in the barn during lambing season. I JUST missed seeing the birth of one of the lambs. But I got to watch it try to get up on its wobbly legs =)

I watched that cam for days waiting for the birth of one of the lambs. Missed them all except for the near miss. It was still fun to watch the babies playing though.

I had a sheep I named Evil Clown. Cause she had markings on her face that made her look like one. She was always staring up at the cam like she was saying, I seeeee youuuuuu...

Creepy! lol

Ooo! It seems they're now on round 2 of lambing season. I could sit here all night and watch these 2 cams =)

lol lolly

when my dad and step mom had their green acres farm, they drafted me to watch ova the birthing of a foal while they were away on vacation

in the house, i had one of those baby monitors, cept the transmitter was in the barn.

stupid mare had the baby like 20 minutes before they got home - afta an entire weekend of pins and needles for me.

Looks like both sheep and eagle mama's are resting up. I don't see any babies running around the barn. There's movement way in the back, I wonder if they've taking mama's and babies back there.

Oh geeee. Did you stay near the house that whole week?

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

ummm - no - it just now popped out!

they didn't believe it

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

welcome to lamb cam - lol

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

Good that it was an easy birth for her then.

haha i hope not to also!

I just read that the lambs are due April 8th. My dad's birthday. If I see one born that day I'll have to name it Gerald, after my dad. He'd just love that *rolls eyes* lol. Hope it's a boy lamb :D

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Yep yep...saw that lil critter. I thought it was a mouse too because of the color and size.

Gopher guts. Nummmm num!

Last summer I heard a huge commotion outside and stepped out onto my porch to take a look. These blackbirds were trying to steal the babies out of a nest. Mom and dad fought like troupers to keep those big ole bullies away from their babies but they were outsized and out numbered.

Law of nature...but it was still kinda sad to watch. Mom and dad sat by that nest for the longest time making noise after their babies where all taken away.

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

i have no clue since i'm not a a fully qualified ornothologist, but i'd swear those eagles are using that crow as a warning symbol - do not even think about this nest as a feeding area!

otherwise, why would they keep that stinking fly festered thing on the edge of their nest?

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Yeah. I'm interested in why they would do that. Makes sense to me.

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

i like how they can be such killers on the wing, but when they come to the nest, they step so carefully to avoid harming the eaglets

real lesson in evolution there

chick feeding in progress

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Yep...very cool!

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

this time both chicks appear to be lined up correctly for the food

but i don't see the 3'rd egg. :-O

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Isn't there a song about gopher guts?

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

I thought I saw the egg

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

well - i hope ya did

and isn't it amazing that both of those chicks could survive for an entire day on half a gopher azz?:

ur right - that isn't a beaver or a groundhog - it's a gopher

Reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Sure is.

I can't find anything on the web that explains why they'd have a crow in the nest. I did find this about crows and eagles though.

It frequently raids crow roosts, which may be why crows will mob this species unmercifully when they encounter it abroad by day.

Edited reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

well, i duno the biology - but i did see the crow placed there

and i did see one of em pulling off some tummy feathers

but i neva saw either of em nibble any of the flesh

and it's still laying right where it started out

Edited reply by lily04GOLD

<--My new granddaughter Jori.

Maybe it's a trophy from a crow raid lol.

Okay...I can't stand looking at my dirty supper dishes any longer (my PC is in the kitchen and I'm facing the sink). Time to tell the eagles/eaglets night night and get my kitchen cleaned up.

Thanks again for this cam, Sum. Love it!

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

i'm actually surprised at how much chow they collect

i thought that animals (in general) had a hard time gettin food

these two seem to be able to collect more than the entire family can eat

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

nighty night Lolly :-)

Reply by kyafirstGOLD

Sound card fixed.. i think.. perhaps.. maybe.. noooooooooooooooo! *sigh*

Maybe the eagle wants the dumb crows to think that is a crows nest.. they see's a crow they will fly by and wave at the new neighbor but not storm the nest...?

Reply by Sum_Southern_Sugar

maybe ;-)
