Tom! What an awesome performance my friend! You really nailed that song, so any critique I give will, and should be considered minute details of polishing. Your tone was incredible, pitch was spot on, your phrasing was near perfect. Critique:
Polish up your consonants and vowels just a little. Not so much that they affect your tone, just enough so that each word is slightly more pronounced. Other than that, I can find no fault my friend! Great job and thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the advice, Rob. I'll work on the consonants and vowels. I kind of over expressed the final consonants on some of my songs. Its seems as though when I save a recording the final consonants(especially 's') gets cut off. It's hard to find a good common ground trying to make them audible. Hope this makes since. I probably just have to experiment and practice them more. Thanks again, my friend!

Hey there!! Who am I to tell you if you have a good enough voice to make it in the music business As I listen to your voice, you have a strong tone and fairly good breath control. Critique:
1. When we are hitting higher notes we have 2 choices: Pull with the diaphragm, open up the vocal mechanism and sing, or push and close the vocal mechanism. The second is not the most desirable as it tends to make us flat on the higher notes. Every singer has to deal with this challenge eventually as they grow vocally.
2. Pronunciation, enunciation: Vocalists tend to use open vowels to sustain a tone. Some times you have difficulty transitioning because you are trying to transition on a closed or partially closed vowel. Overall a great sing though. Keep going for your dreams, and don't let anyone tell you that you can't be successful in whatever you put your mind to. God bless and thanks for sharing

You have a beautiful, versatile voice with great tone, breath control, and phrasing! Really good job! Good luck on The Voice my friend. When you go out there, know that you are already good enough, do your best, and leave it all out there on the stage! You will do fine! With that in mind, we are all constantly trying to develop our voices, and there are a couple of things I would like you to be aware of in the critique:
1. Your voice is absolutely beautiful, especially in those soft, sweet, parts of the music, and that is where you truly shine. Be careful not to plod (put too much weight on one note, making it difficult for you to go to the next one), or punch (making the note you sing stand out too much in comparison to the others breaking the consistency of the sound) as they disrupt that beautiful, melodious picture that you are creating as you sing.
2. Pronunciation Enunciation-while we are on the topic of polishing, it wouldn't hurt to sharpen your open vowels and the consonants just a little bit Add that to your beautiful tone, and I believe everyone will be captivated by your voice. It really is beautiful! Thanks for sharing, God bless!

Hey there!! I would strongly advise not to sing when you have these kind of things going on. They can cause a lot of vocal strain, and your voice sounds very strained my friend. Hey there!! Beautiful vocals going on here! The lyrics are very nice and well written as well! Critique:
1. I would have liked to see more variety. There is light/dark, bitter/sweet, etc.. How do you want to convey the light and contrast it from the dark? "Still loving you despite the pain you put me through" how do you emotionally convey the persistence through your music. The ending isn't terrible, but you played it safe You have overcome a horrible situation and rose above it by not succumbing to the evil it represented. This is major, and in my opinion there should certainly be a bit more vocal dynamics going on.
2. I would like to hear the notes bit fuller-more support as you sing. Overall though a great sing, and an awesome set of lyrics you put together! Thanks for sharing and God bless!

Great singing my friend! Nice transitions from high to low! Great tone! Phrasing is spot on for this song! Overall, I'd say you nailed it nicely. A couple of small things for critique:
1. While your transitions from high to low are great, those from low to high seem to challenge you just a bit. I notice as you go up the bridge, you bobble a bit sometimes as if your not quite sure your going to nail the note. We baritones like to drop down into that nice comfortable whole round sound of our chest voice don't we When you go down, don't drop into it quite as hard and you will find that the transition up will be a bit easier
2. Watch the accent. I'm half Greek and catch my accent occasionally causing my vowels to not quite be as open, which in turn affects my vocal acuity during the song. Other than that, you were spot on my friend! Loved my listen! God bless and thanks for sharing

Hey is that you on the guitar too?? Awesome my friend! I feel like I'm sitting around a campfire cooking marshmallows! Your vocal tone is really soothing and relaxing! If that is you on the guitar, you truly have a gift for playing that thing man! Really good! Critique:
1. Know your range.- some of those notes are a bit too low for you, and that takes away from the awesomeness of your composition because it breaks the continuity.
2. Wouldn't hurt to polish up the vowels and consonants just a little. Not so much that it affects the tone or continuity of the song, but just enough so that the words are a little clearer. Other than that, awesome my friend! Loved it! Thanks for sharing

Hi Crooner! Smooth vocals here, lovin it! Critique:
1. Tone should be a bit brighter-meaning the focal point of the tone should be closer toward the teeth and not tucked back so far. This will also help on those higher notes as well.
2. Phrasing-don't break the sentences up quite so much. Breath at the natural breaks of the song. Overall, a great sing though from you my friend! Loved my listen!

It's been a long while since I got some feedback from you. My voice has changed as I grow older (I am 49 now). It has become deeper and raspier. I've lost some of the range a little bit at the top register but overall I am pleased where my voice is at at the moment in terms of timbre and tone. The level of presence in my voice has also increased. So what do you think of my newly found voice? Deep baritone I would think.

Hi everyone!! I'm back from a great deal of chaos, and things are finally leveling out again after Harvey, and a few other issues! So, I'll open this back up. But first, I will post a few rules:
1.Please only post 1 song for an evaluation.
2.If I have given you feedback, take a couple of months to work on it before submitting another song.
3.Please remember this is not a contest, and that you are asking me to give my best educated guess as to what things you might be able to improve on. You may disagree with my evaluation, and that's fine, because I'm not perfect either. But, save the drama for Oprah
4.Please submit a song for evaluation. Otherwise, I don't know which one you want me to evaluate.
5.Limit your songs to the singsnap library. No Youtube or songs recorded outside of singsnap will be evaluated.
6.I will often refer people to youtube videos from experts that can explain a concept better than I can, but if you need more clarification, after you have reviewed the videos and my feedback, feel free to private message me.
7.Please remember that not every evaluation will be as positive as one might hope. If that happens to you, look at it as an opportunity to improve, because that is what it is 8.
8.I handle songs in a "first come, first served" manner. That means, depending on how many songs have been submitted, it might take a bit for me to get to yours, but I will get there

Other than that, I hope this experience will be helpful to you, and I look forward to hearing you sing

Your voice has gotten better since last I heard you!! Your tone is awesome, and I can tell that you have been practicing. I'm glad to see that you are not pushing as hard as you used to on the notes . Critique:
Please be careful with your enunciation. There are a few words that are quite important in this song that come off as a different word. Examples would be where you sing "mind" it sounds like "mine," "they" "day""song""sawn" and at the end, make sure you emphasize the vowels correctly. That last "mind" seems tucked back because it comes out as "Muhnd"
Other than enunciation, and a few small tonal things, everything sounds great!!! Thanks for sharing, and as always, I hope this helps

Howdy RobbG,

Thanks for the evaluation but that recording was from 2013 because I have been a blue SS member now for nearly 3 years and that means there are not many songs that I want to record that I can record. So I just pick an old recording for a critique since Youtube videos are not allowed.

That said these days I have evolved into a "Aryan" demon breed of rock singers. LOL I took 5 Speech Level Singing lessons (once a month for 5 months) and did the exercises from February until now every day for 15 minutes and that has expanded my range now to nearly 4 octaves. I use to sing jazz standards and easy listening stuff like Bublé because that was my range but now I can sing metal.....hard rock....soul stuff. I also don't push anymore because I can float up there at the higher register plus mixing chest with head voice helps get the higher notes much easier. The sound production becomes much more effortless meaning I don't tire after singing a hard challenging song after a few takes needing vocal rest before doing another take. I can sing and sing and sing with great stamina without getting hoarse. I can play with different sounds and inflections creating distortion (rasp) or much cleaner tone as well as sharp piercing sound commonly heard in hard rock.

I won't post my latest Youtube video here but I will post a Singsnap thread where I posted a hard rock Whitesnake song I recorded yesterday. All the demons tremble when they hear me sing now because I have become a rock singer of the Aryan archangel stock persuasion metaphorically singing. LOL I never imagined I could sing like this ever which even tops my vocal range 25 years ago (I am 50 now). It is unbelievable how good and sound technique can make singing so easy meaning you can focus more on how to project emotions required for the song.

Hey there!!! I have heard you sing so many songs, and one of the things I love most about your voice is how versatile it is! Your tone is beautiful, and you did a great job on the rap/recitative part of the song as well.
1. I sense a bit of tension in your vocals as you go up higher. This doesn't happen all the time in the song, but there are parts in the middle where the higher notes seem a little tight. It's hard to determine if that was a breath control issue (where you might have been getting low on breath at the end of the phrase) or it's a pronunciation/enunciation consonant/vowel issue. If you felt your breath was fine during those higher notes, I would recommend revisiting open vowels and explosive consonants. I'll post some videos on breath control exercises and vowels

Vowels/consonants

Overall, awesome singing!!!! Really love your voice. None of us ever truly master an art. Keep learning my friend!! Great job!
