Behringer Xenyx1202FX mixer upgrade

Listed in Recording Help & Tips.

Post by OrKo6GOLD

Hi Guys,

Been a while since I've bee on SS.

I must say your tips you gave me for the Xenyx1202FX really got me started and motivated for more! A special thanx to BARRY AND CHRIS.

I'm thinking about upgrading so this time I'm asking for your humble opinions first rather than just buying.

I'm looking to buy the Behringer X2442USB mixer as an upgrade to the one I have.

Would this be a good choice for an upgrade?
Since this one has USB and software so I can start recording my voice and let you (my fellow singsnappers) give me proper hints and tips.

On my current mixer I use the 89th effect on my mixer. Would like to know If I would even get better results in this new mixer I would like to buy?

Kind regards
Orko =)

Orko,

We generally advise to stay away from the USB mixers because they can cause timing issues while recording on Snap - for many people they work fine but for some they're problematic.

With your mixer you can do everything you want to do with whatever recording software you're using - CuBase, Sonar etc... the USB mixers allow for easier access to the software rather than having a stand-alone software application. This particular mixer does not have the capability of recording multiple tracks so that is a definite limitation if you're writing/creating your own music using multiple instruments. Also having a mixer this size is best used when multiple instruments/mics etc are connected to it - otherwise it's a waste of money.

Only saw your reply now.

Thanx Chris.

The main reason why I want to buy this mixer is the 1204FX only has 4 mic in's and as I explained before my input from my laptop/phone goes into channel 3 and 4.

Thus leaving channel 1 and 2 for mics.

I have a Samson Q7 and Shure PG58 mic as well as the Samson Concert 77 wireless mic so I always have to plug the one mic out to plug in the wireless one at weddings and venues.

To record on singsnap I'll still use your advice to go out of the cd/tape and into the line-in on my PC.

I hope that my last few recordings sounded a bit better increasing the effects a bit more like you suggested.

Thanx for your great help so far.

I also listened to some of your recordings. DAMN it sounds GOOD!!!

But I guess it also benefits a lot being a GOLD member.

Here in South Africa the online buying through your credit card isn't always a good option.

I also realized I'm the only South African member on SS if I checked right =)

So I'll stay a blue member just following instructions on recording and stuff to get the most out of my SS experience
