on step 2 where it shows your mic (which is what you want or line in ) for recording on the singsnap recorders ,, there is also a little black arrow next to what is listed
click on it to use any different options like stereo mix if your soundcard has this feature
that may be listed there
also above under dbraldley's post is a link
click on that and go to the tutorials showing how to enable stereo mix if your soundcard has this option
let me know if this helps ,,babs

Jason, thanks for the lowdown, BUT many of us Vista users only have a Mic and StereoMix Wave thing visible, which is a bit confusing for us non-techies...I finally figured it all out due to two posts in another thread which I think needs to go in this thread.BIG THANKS TO HOOTZ AND WITCHDOCTRESS....without whom...there would be no more singing from me...it is bedtime now, but I got a whole lotta singing to do tomorrwow...cos I am all fixed thanks to THE FOLLOWING POST:

ok ppl...Me thinks I got it figured out...the hubby had to go and get this dang program with his new computer but it's me who gets to figure it all out...lol...
anyways, I used Hootz's linkhttp://blogs.technet.com/aralves/archive/2006/09/11/455366.aspx
to get me started.
1st: you must have both the show disabled devices and show disconnected devices checked off in order to find the hidden devices. Now hopefully I've written this as simply as possible, so here it goes:
Right-click on the audio device on the taskbar if you've already done the step above and have closed the window.
Go to Playback and right-click on speakers then click on Properties.
Click on Levels and set Line In to 45, set Microphone to 90.
You may want to change these later as you figure out your preference but it's a good starting place.
Click on Enhancements and check off Equalizer and also check off Immediate mode.
You should change your setting ie Ours is set for Living Room.Click ok.
Next, click on Recording.
Right-click microphone then click on Properties.
Click on Levels and set microphone at 35 and set Microphone boost 2/3's the way to the right.
The little box beside it should say +20.0 dB.
Click on Enhancements and make sure that both Immediate mode and DC Offset Cancellation are checked.Click ok.
Right-click Stereo Mix (may be listed under a different name ie. WaveOut Mix, but it should still be the same device).
Click Properties, then click Levels.
Set Stereo Mix to 65. Again, you may want to change this later but it's a good starting point.
Click on Enhancements and make sure both Immediate mode and DC Offset Cancellation are checked.Click ok.
Right-click Stereo Mix once more and set as default device. This will change when you are singing but that's ok.
Now go and try to record a song.
You will probably have to adjust the volume but may I suggest you do the adjusting with the buttons on the keyboard.
It's a lot easier and less frustrating that way.
Once recorded, take a listen and see if you can hear both the music as well as your voice. When I tried it after doing those settings all ya heard was a great big WOO HOO out of me!!! Cause it worked.
Hopefully this will help you all as well. If yer still stuck, PM me and I'll see if I can help ya!!
Cheers,
DocLara

The info above will set your computer up to record in "stereo mix'
What this means is that your computer is capturing both the music being played and your vocal and recording them toggether as one track.
When recording on singsnap it is best to record, just your vocal, then when you get to the singsnap mixer, just select "enable music" this will place a fresh music track along with your vocal. Now that you have 2 seperate tracks you can adjust the volumes between them in the singsnap mixer and also use the "make me sound better" button,to add effects to your vocal recording. In order to record just your vocal you need to select "microphone" as your recording device.
If you record in stereo mix setting and then click on "enable music " in the singsnap mixer, this will place a fresh music track along with the music and vocal mix that you recorded while being setup as "stereo mix",resulting in double music tracks that are usually "out of sync" with each other.
Stere o mix can be used, but we suggest when using it that you don't select "enable music" for the simple reason of getting double music tracks and other timing issues.
But by recording this way,you will also lose out on the "make me sound better" button which is also a feature that you pay for as a gold member.
If you require assistance to set your computer up to record on singsnap, please click on the link below and select "recording using XP "
"recording using Vista and Windows 7"....ect
Just select the one that applies to your operating system and follow the step by step instructions. At the bottom of each tutorial, you will find a link back to the recording support profile where you can message our team incase you need further assistance.

I think I am wanting to do something different than the others on this thread. AFTER I finish recording, I can hear both my vocals and the music just fine. But I want to be able to hear my vocals through the headphones WHILE I am singing. Does anything on this thread help with that, or is there another thread that explains how to do this? I bought vocal studio recording software to use on my computer (not for SingSnap) and when I record using that, I can hear my voice coming through at the same time it is being recorded. This is what I want to accomplish on SingSnap. Any help would sure be appreciated!

You absolutely should be able to hear yourself while recording!
I encourage you to check out our profile page and review the tutorials for recording for your system and hopefully you'll be able to accomplish this:
