Gee Your Hair SOUNDS Terrrrrriffic

Just a quick question before I enter. How is Journey a 80's Hair Metal Band? They were listed on the billboard in the early 80's for Pop.

To me when I think of Hair Metal...I think of these bands:
poison, motley crue, skid row, scorpions, white lion, Guns 'n Roses,
def leppard, whitesnake, dokken, tesla, quiet riot, ratt, great white, firehouse, slaughter, kix, extreme, damn yankees, cinderella, winger, twisted sister, quiet riot

Just want to clarify. Not trying to cause drama. Thanks.

Of course I am being funny! Journey is an American rock band formed in 1973 in San Francisco, California with former members of Santana. The band has gone through several phases, but its strongest commercial success came in the late 1970s to the early 1980s. During this period, they had hits with a series of power ballads and rock songs. They could be looked upon as several genres mainly Rock, jazz fusion, progressive rock, hard rock, soft rock. Nowhere were they ever considered "Pop." That would be left to Elton John and similar acts. Were they a hair band? Their success slowed towards the hair band era but they still sold out arenas/stadiums just like or even with the "hair" bands. I saw them at the Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in 1978 with Heart, Ted Nugent, Van Halen, and Aerosmith and then in 1982 with Sammy Hagar and Joan Jett. The Jam always had bands such as this and Night Ranger, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Krokus, Poison, Whitesnake, Boston, Tesla, Dio, Loverboy, Rush, .38 Special, Ozzy, Styx, Triumph, Foreigner, Foghat, REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Eagles, and Metallica. I did not miss a single one from 1978 on as my sister took me when I was 6 and every year thereafter. I was sad to see it end in 1988. But there is noway you can call Journey "Pop." Someone was sadly mistaken.

On a side note, Damn Yankees were not formed until the 90's.

I wasnt trying to cause drama...i was asking a question. But since you want to be sarcastic and nit pick I will give you some info too. Coming from a large online site dedicated to biographies of musicians. I will PM you the link if you want to verify. Here is a section of their biography.

"That same year Journey went for the first time in the studio with their new keyboardist Jonathan Cain, formerly of The Babys, who replaced Rolie, they recorded their masterpiece, "Escape" which was issued in August; this album shot to #1 on the Billboard Magazine's Top 200 chart and was eventually certified nine times platinum; it produced a string of smash singles including the superb "Who's Crying Now" which hit #4 on both Pop Sales and Mainstream Rock Singles charts; "Don't Stop Believin'" cracked the top 10 in the same charts and "Stone In Love" reached #13 on The Mainstream Rock chart; the two final singles, the power ballads "Open Arms" and "Still They Ride", peaked respectively at #2 and #19 on the Pop chart."

Like I said I was just asking a question because I grew up listening to hair bands. Prince had long hair and was on the Billboard for rock...does he count too?

Damn Yankees, formed yes, released their first self-titled album in 1990. The point is you asked a question regarding Journey, we answered. Drama? What because someone provides support of an answer? It seems you wanted an open ended question unanswered by anyone. Since I entered a Journey song, I think I have the right to answer the question and support my stance. If I hadn't, I would not have said a word. Obviously, the host accepted Journey or she would not have listed the previous entry by suern. Either you wanted someone to answer or you wanted to question the host's choices. Either way, it sounds like you want the drama. Let the host make her own decisions and just freakin' sing for crying out loud.

If you were not submitting Journey yourself, what purpose does it serve for you to ask if you have have no intention of considering them and singing them yourself? It sounds like you're just wanting to question the hosts decision of allowance. It is simple, if the host did not want to accept Journey, she would not have accepted suern's entry and put it on the list. If she had not accepted it, she would have stated so or not put it on the list. Either way, you have gotten your answer but of course, as all can see, it is drama you wish for. If the host decides not to accept Journey, it will not effect you one way or another because OMG, you don't even have an entry in yet!

I haven't a clue what is going on... All I see is a few people discussing if Journey is a rock or pop band. Well the truth is Journey is a Rock band... but some of their songs would be considered cross-over songs into the pop category as well. A lot of song have this cross-over. I mean do you remember Sylvia's Nobody tune... I use to listen to on the POP station but it is actually country. Or how about ONJ... her first songs were contemporary adult ~ country --- cross overs. I am not a band historian or anything but I do not see were DRAMA is evolved at all.... just some meanful discussion about Journey. Who did not know Journey was actual considered rock do now :)---- Peace and Love my friends.

I am sorry that it is ending. I hope that you will be able to have one at another time.

And in the meantime, just want to say that I really, really enjoyed listening to and commenting on each and every one of your sings! You're all super talented and I even got to hear a few songs I either didn't know at all or hadn't heard in forever.
