I ALWAYS clean browser cookies.. Flash cookies... I run a reputable system cleaner .. I reset the modem ...
btw.. your wizard... (because I DO not believe in flash cookies lingering ...I reset them ) the NEW wizard... every time i run it.. I HAVE TO run it 2 times to make it work correctly. For some reason it will not pick up my sound card (the first time) ... and i always need to reRun it another time or it will not work.. there is definitely a "fluke" in the new wizard.. i have experienced this EVERY time i run it...
other than that.. after all is ran and adjusted right... the new player is amazing..

Have to run it two times.. interesting.
I'll be making some changes to how they are read / written and we'll see what happens. Changes to how browsers are handling private data like this are really mucking with user's ability to actually DO things. Frustrating for everyone.
Thanks for the feedback people. I have new version (8.3d) in testing now that promises to be a good improvement. Fingers crossed!

Wait.. run it twice to see your sound card? In the microphone section?
Are you sure that your sound card isn't listed in a different order the first time you run it? (Just guessing at possible problems.)

Yes Jason... I actually just sang another tune about an hour ago ( now in IC.. ) ... and had to run the "new" wizard twice to get my sound blaster card to work. It is trying to get the CAM mic to record on the first try, even though I select the soundblaster and i even test it with as it gives the option to. I know indeed i am selecting the right device in the 'microphone section'... I don't understand but that is the honest truth.
I like the fact this site will stick in the cookies... so we do not need to run the wizard all the time.. but @ my own discretion , because of other sites I visit, i like to clean the flash cookies often... so I seriously do not mind re- running your wizard.. but yes... the microphone/sound card will not work on the first try... I always have to go below and rerun the wizard once again.. then your recorder is flawless..
to add... I am meaning when i try to record on the first attempt... it wont pick up my mic... so i have to proceed below the recording player to select the wizard, and try it once again.. then after I do so, it is working like a charm..

The fact YOU go all out to help everyone is awesome.. these days it is very hard to satisfy every system and everyone's equipment... I respect the fact you all are trying to compromise the best you can..

Oh, well, that's very interesting. If it does this a lot, I might be bugging you a little more to do some testing. :o
Thanks for the kind words.
I've just completed some testing of a new technique for video sync in the preview that is *far* better than the old technique. I'm going to test it a little more and then put it live later today unless something comes up. This is a perfect example of how valuable feedback can make things better for everyone!!

Well, i am back, and i am very disappointed on the Loud Instrumentals. I have adjusted the volumn, on the Music, got closer too my mic, and it just isn't working. Why is the Music so loud now on the old recorder?? And i tryed too buffer another song with the new recorder, and no luck again. I am getting very very sad here. Do something please, or i will look for another site!

Well, certainly *nothing* changed on the old recorder. It's likely the volume settings on your computer.
Please contact SingSnapSupport, they'll help you out!

Using file compression just does not do justice to the songs on this site, and that is what the new recorder is all about. This is a cost saving measure to reduce the amount of storage space required, and you are reducing the quality of the songs by doing this.
File compression means data loss, and data loss equals sound quality loss. You are doing an injustice to your members trying to reduce your storage costs. It just does not sound as good with the new recorder, and no one will convince me that it does. Sorry, Just my opinion !!!
Reply by JasonSTAFF
Well, "file compression" is *exactly* the same on the old and new recorder for sound, since the process that does the work (known as the "mixing servers") are the same, old and new. But there's no use saying that, because "no one will convince you".
Hope you take this to heart; I have no reason to lie to you about it.
All media on the web is compressed, of course. Youtube, iTunes, netflix, you name it, it's compressed. .
Like everything in this thread, it's a compromise.
Reply by Honnete
Oh man, i'm REALLY bummed to hear you're phasing out the old recorder.
The new one takes MUCH longer to load for me, and then when i go to save it, one time it didn't switching from the new little "loading" design for like, SEVERAL MINUTES, and then the second time, it didn't switch AT ALL and i lost my recording.
I can't express how much this will effect recording for me on SS!!!
I'm curious, why are you guys phasing the old recorder out??
Reply by Honnete
Oh, another thing...........the buffering feature, HATE IT! And when i press pause, it works whenever it wants to....
Reply by MOONGLOWGOLD
My songs are not loading today on the new recorder. The numbers start counting up instead of down and the song does not ever load up.
Reply by JasonSTAFF
Slower loading is something we're also going to address. The music files are much larger and higher quality in the Improved recorder, but we'll offer a smaller version.
Honnete, sometimes if there is a webserver problem (or a network outage, like your internet goes out and comes back, etc) during the recording, you could potentially face this problem where the Mixer doesn't come up. In the Original Recorder, the same thing could happen but in a different manner.
In any case, I'll put some effort into looking at a way that we can "try again" if going to the Mixer step fails. I agree with you, one of the worst things to happen is when you lose that great track you just laid down.
Moonglow: What numbers are counting up, the buffering in the lower right? Is your internet slow at the moment?

Is there a way for the new recorder to:
not have quite so much "MMSB" (it's a bit much for me) and
be able to turn MMSB off and be able to actually hear vocals?
With the old recorder, the MMSB was much more subtle. I could add more "reverb" (a/k/a echo) with my soundcard and many people have those or external mixers, etc. for that. And the old recorder didn't pick up every teeny, tiny sound like the new one does, regardless of recording volume.
The old recorder also allowed for a "cold" non-MMSB recording that just worked. Didn't have to turn the recording volume way up like the new one requires, which, even with clipping enabled, sounds horrible and/or turn the backing track down so much it's almost acapella.
Reply by JasonSTAFF
Hi offtone,
Great feedback! For now, the MMSB will be staying as is. Here's some food for thought though:
The recording "meter" in the Improved Recorder is more accurate than the old one. That said, the recording volume is the same. So if you recorded something in the Original and the Improved, clipping will happen at the same point.
If you set the volume control to the same point on the screen, it would record at exactly the same levels in each recorder. It could be that you had clipping in the old recorder but you just can't hear it. In this case, you could record the same in the new and and will get the same result.
If you don't enable the MMSB, the mixing process and volumes are precisely the same from the Original to the Improved recording processes.
A dry non-MMSB recording that "just worked" is probably simply due to the volume set to a much higher level. So, you could try to simply record with the levels into the red (uncheck "Clipping Protection") and see how it sounds.
Hope this helps some.

It would be nice if the auto mixing actually had an off button, i have been trying to remix a song for 20 mins and no matter where I put the slider, It all stays the same. Two beats behind the tune.

You can always disable mixing by unchecking "Enable Music".
Can you send me via PM the song you're having trouble with? I'm not sure I fully understand the problem.

Hi Soloman,
Sorry to hear you're having troubles. Can you outline what the problems are? I can't fix them if I don't know what they are.
Give it a try again, and see what happens and we'll go from there!

Been catching up on comment's
I am still having recording problems, I have read just about everything & tried way to many things, & still no luck with the new recorder, none of my songs are right, and I am so disgusted with it I am so ready to leave ss all together.
I have had so many to try to help resolve this & I still can't sing duets, the timing is way off, and nothing helps.

I understand what you're trying to say... but I disagree ...my songs have increased 200% better in sound quality since this recorder evolved, in confidence. Had issues during development but no better way to develop... using all the members input. I am a happy customer and excluding my voice... my sound is amazing on this recorder/player.... the new version is top notch! night and day difference. I even sing on a Xp 2.25 GHz, 512MB ram ;)

I work in Television, and work with digital data streams, (Video and Audio mixed) and the level of compression does effect the quality of the data.
You can set your own data rate, thus determining the quality of the final output. Your auto adjust recording level in the "Improved Recorder" is doing just that by limiting audio levels on the recorder.
Cable systems do this with TV signals every day to conserve bandwidth, and it does effect the end product. I know that data compression is common in digital data streams, but the amount of compression determines the quality of the final output, as well as the storage requirements for the file itself, and the new recorder is all about bandwidth and storage capacity.
Why else would you change something that already works well and is proven to be reliable? . Out of 1000 songs, I have only lost about 10 songs on the old recorder, and the record levels of the voice is now heavily compressed, and does not sound as good as the old recorder.

Edited reply by JasonSTAFF
Luvs3sing, I repeat: the file compression is the same in the old and new recorder. It's the same process running on our servers, and has nothing to do with the Improved recorder.
You cannot select different compression rates for audio in Flash. You are forced to use the built-in settings, no options to change.
Once on our server we of course select the level of compression. This process (the mixing servers) hasn't changed from the Original to the Improved recorder. Both recorders share the same mixing servers.
As far as AUDIO compression, which has nothing to do with file compression, the setting have changed in order to better handle a wider range of users. This *WAS* broken for many people. If you have your levels set properly it should work well.
You can always turn it off, too. Just uncheck MMSB and the outcome will be identical to the Original recorder.

I see none of my issues have been addressed here and no PM, although I see a few members with the same problems, I've no time to read everything... I just tried again with the new recorder.... HORRIBLE. It drags/slurs all over the place on playing back what I sang. I am NOT going to save and post a recording that I can't hear before saving it. For one thing, it wastes a great deal more of my time and as I have mentioned, the new recorder takes far longer to load than the original one and wastes at least an additional 30 seconds. Not good. I won't be able to renew if problems continue or if we can't have the option to use the original until all issues are completely fixed. I suspect much has to do with the clipping protection added, an unnecessary feature. Possibly the lyric speed thing may cause problems, too, as that must change something regarding speed.... I don't use either feature and can't understand why anyone would need them. If they are the culprits for the problems, I opt they be removed. Again, I have left my issues before and all my tech stuff... still very unhappy with the new recorder.

CKat, I'm still waiting for at least one example of the problem so I can have a closer look. The clipping protection simply slides the recording volume down for you and the lyrics speed sets the sync of lyrics to music.
If you don't use them, they're literally as good as not present, so just ignore them! You might not need them but other people do.

If you don't use the mixer, then using the Original recorder instead of the old one does only one thing: it uses lower quality audio for the source music. The Improved recorder uses higher quality stereo files than the old one.
Let me stress this: recording with the improved recorder in no way changes your microphone recording. Without using the mixer, the finished files are virtually identical.

The new recorder won't work for me because I don't have a camera or a microphone, I just sing for fun. So with the old recorder I just hit no when it comes up to set it up and it takes me to the song so I can sing it. When you hit no on the new recorder it does nothing, and I can't set it up because I don't have a camera or microphone.

I don't like the new recorder. Every time I go to sing a song I'll put the bar on the microphone part on right underneath the red line and when I start singing it goes down to the middle and when to listen to the song at the end you can barely hear me singing when I uncheck the "make me sound better" button. Please please tell me that ya'll won't get rid of the original recorder in the future so that we HAVE To use the new recorder... ![]()

That was why I asked about being able to turn MMSB off for a "cold" recording with the new mixer. I have the exact same problem. It does not matter what volume I have my computer and soundcard at or what volume I have the recorder set at.
I did not have this kind of problem with the old recorder. Yes I had to adjust vocal/music sometimes, but it was a much easier adjustment and the vocals came through a lot smoother.
The only thing you can do, I believe? is uncheck the clipping protection. But that can give you a kind of almost distorted/gnarly sound that isn't what was intended. Or in the preview turn the music way down, but then it's almost like you're singing acapella. Which if you want or need to (say for a contest?) would be ok, but not for general recording/listening, right?

Hi! I wasn't having any trouble with the new recorder until today.
I hooked up my new mixer, used the Wizard to set up...
Now it won't let me connect to any songs... I've tried several different songs from various genres. Just says... "CONNECTING" and then I sit here waiting for a few minutes before giving up.
Maybe it's just the weather... There have been tornado watches out today.
Maybe it's the new mixer. I don't know...
Could use some advice...

My thoughts are with those families who have been affected by Oklahoma City Tornado
I just wanna say....I LOVE the new recorder...and it is just as easy to use as the old one!
If your recording is dragging it is because you either have too many applications open which slows down your bandwith(uploading & downloading)...trust me....it happens to me! In Australia we pay for our bandwith....I pay for 50 gig....once it has reached 50 gig it goes slower than a snail and it takes about 10 minutes to buffer to listen to anyone!
I use to have problems getting the quality of my recordings right, I called in a professional, I had wires plugged into the wrong place LOL!
Honestly, if you have a problem....don't give up...it is not SS...it is your system!
